From using an alias

I am an eM Client new user and I have an important issue to solve in order to be able to use eM in the same way I use gmail.

I have a gmail account, and besides my gmail address I download (pop3) other, non-gmail, email accounts.

In gmail, I can send e-mails using this non-gmail e-mails accounts so I have everything happening in the same gmail account.

I have sorted out a similar behavour eM using the alias, the only problem I have is what eM shows in the from field.

When I use eM with my gmail account, receiver receives “from: Name Surname”. Excellent!
When I use eM with an alias (i.e. [email protected]), receiver receives “From: name.example”.

Is there any way in which I can have “from: Name Surname” in every e-mail I send (although using my gmail account or the different aliases)?

Thanks in advance for your support.

Hi Diego, if you’ve setup the User information under your account (you can check this in Tools > Accounts > Your account > General > User information) with your Name Surname, this name should be displayed when sending an email from an alias or from your original account? If you don’t have the User information setup correctly only the email address the receiver has saved in Contacts will be displayed with your actual name.

Hope this helps,
Paul.

Hello Paul.

Thanks from your prompt reply.

Everything is set as you’ve emntioned.

So when I send an e-mail from the e-mail address ([email protected]) under ‘User Information’ everything works perfect (who receives an e-mail sees what I’ve set as name in “Tools > Accounts > Your account > General > User information” in the From field.

However, under “Tools > Accounts > Your account > General > User information > Alias” I have set an alias (which is [email protected]) and when I send an e-mail from this alias (choosing it from the from field in every new e-mail I am composing) the e-mail’s receiver sees [email protected] in the "From"field of the e-mail, instead of seeing what I’ve set as name in “Tools > Accounts > Your account > General > User information”.

I hope I am being clear with this issue, please let me know in case you need further clarification.

Thanks.

What version of eM Client are you using? How did you test this, does this occur with all the recipients or just one?

Can you make a screenshot of an email received from this alias showing just the email address?

Thank you,
Paul.

Hello Paul.
Thanks for your reply. I am using version 6.0.20617.0.
Can you send me your e-mail address so I send you the screenshot?
Thanks

I’ve recently sent you an email I believe, or you can also post the screenshot here on the forum.
[email protected]

Thank you,
Paul.

Any updates to this? I am having the same issue where it shows the email address as the FROM and not the name setup as the user information

Hi Jan, this issue has been submited to the developers and should be in progress, just to follow up with your issue, what mail service/provider are you having issues with?

Thank you,
Paul.

Hi Paul. My provider is gmail.
Thanks
Jon

Hi Jon, ok in that case please be patient, I’ve submitted the issue with gmail account to the developers and hopefully it will be resolved in future releases.

Thank you for understanding,
Paul.

Any update to this? i just received the new update and the same issue occurs. Thanks

Hi Jon, sorry for my belated reply, I’m unfortunately not able to replicate this issue with any of my accounts, what version of eM Client are you currently using then, can you please tell me the exact version number from Help > About?

Thank you,
Paul.

Hi Paul,
I am using EM Client Version 6.0.20899.0

I have created an alias under one of my accounts. When I compose a new message, I select the FROM drop-down list and select the alias. When I send the email, the name of the account appears to the recipient as the full email address of the originating account, not the alias nor the name setup in the originating account (i.e. XYZ@gmail.com versus XYZ). The hopes were the name setup in the account would appear as the FROM to the recipient and not the full email address.

Hope this explanation helps.

Jon

Hi again Jon, sorry for my belated reply, but I have found out the following when testing aliases with gmail. Under Gmail settings you can find your display settings for “accounts you own” e.g. your aliases.
Unfortunately you have to edit the display name for your alias under the Gmail settings, but then using the alias with a selected display name should work properly.

We’re currently considering adding this feature to future releases of eM Client.

Hope this helps,
Paul.

Paul,

I am a new user, or at least a potential user.  I have been looking for a lightweight Outlook alternative, that can serve as the client for five email addresses (2 gmail and 3 exchange addresses for the three colleges where I teach).  So, if we can resolve the issue below, I’ll be a Pro paid user.

The problem seems to be the one in this thread and others having to do with a gmail address where I use the “Send mail as:” feature.  I want to display my name as well as my email address.

See screenshot below of my settings for “Send mail as.”  With these settings, when I compose an email, it defaults to:

MARK GROSSMAN PUBLIC RELATIONS <[email protected]>

But in EMClient, just the email address, not the name, displays.

I am also sending a screen shot of my account settings in EMClient.  Do I have this configured correctly?

MARK GROSSMAN
631-786-0404
[email protected]

Hi Mark, eM Client does not support different User ID for your Alias, due to this missing feature it is not possible to display the default user ID for you account as we believe when using multiple accounts as aliases, in business use for example sales/[email protected] mailboxes, it is not expected to display the user ID of the default user.

However, we’re currently working on adjustments for this feature and hopefully upcoming releases of eM Client should include the option to edit the ID for aliases.

Regards,
Paul

Any update on this issue? I can see this issue has not been fixed since almost 2 years. Is there a change it will be fixed anytime soon?

Hello Tushar, when using aliases that are not automatically linked to your account, user ID will not be shown for the sent message as current alias options do not allow you to use a different user id when sending from an alias. We’re working on including the option in an upcoming release of eM Client.

Hope this helps.

Hi Paul,

I have seen a lot of your replies in all similar problems. For right now the major concern is the Name (identifier) which is used for the emails. So all the emails from an alias currently are being shown up as emails and not names. From field will show [email protected] and not FirstName LastName

I found that it has been an issue since a long time and there has been no patch released for the same since a while. I found a way to use the same feature in Outlook 2013 so I wont be switching to Em Client unless the Alias is pretty advanced like using the Alias as default for sending mails etc…

Thanks
Tushar

Hello, as I suggested this is currently the expected behavior, unlinked aliases do not use your User ID, as for general aliases used in companies, such as [email protected] etc., this might be considered unwanted. As I’ve previously suggested we’re working on improving this feature in future releases.
