Folder disappeared

I was cleaning up and deleting old folders yesterday and a receipts folder disappeared. The folder was not related to the folders being removed, and that it just vanished was inexplicable.
Is there a way to recover the missing folder? Thank you

If it was deleted using delete, it will be in the Trash. If it was permanently deleted using Shift + Delete, it will not be in the Trash and won’t be recoverable unless you have a recent eM Client backup.

But it may have been moved to another folder by mistake. You could try searching for some email you know was in that folder. Make sure you select All Folders in the searchbox dropdown before the search. Then when you see the result, right-click in the message body and choose Properties. It will give the folder location. If the folder is in the More folder, right-click on the folder and choose Show and it will move back to where it was.

Thank you Gary for your reply and suggestions.

I didn’t delete it accidentally nor as part of a subfolder. This is the second time in 6 months I’ve lost an important folder unexpectedly, so instead of trying to recover the missing folder, my time will be better spent ditching eM Client altogether and finding a new mail program like Outlook or Spark.

Again thanks for your help.

If you or any other family members didn’t manually delete the message folder in eM Client and you didn’t accidentally move the message folder as you advised, the only other way is if there is eg: another computer or device which might possibly then have access to your mailbox remotely via either a mail client or webmail. Sometimes it can be family members deleting messages.

So to rule out if the issue if it’s with another computer or device remotely, suggest “you change your mailbox password” at your mailbox server end to then see if that fixes the problem. After changing your password at your server, you might also need to retype the new password in eM Client to match depending on the type of mail account whether it’s a OAuth modern token acct or not.

Now if messages still disappear after changing your password, and there is other people in the same house or premesis, suggest to manually lock your computer with a password when your not using it to avoid anyone deleting messages.

Thank you for your advice. I am the only one using eM Client.

I’m going to move my email data to another client. I need more flexibility than web-based email can provide, otherwise, I would go that route.

I am interested in whether anyone else has had the same kind of problems with folders that have gone missing after routine client maintenance. It doesn’t seem that I could be the only one.

Thank you, again.

There is another possibility. If you use a Gmail or Google Workspace account, folders are really just tags. All the messages exist in the All Mail folder, but have tags (labels) that sort them into folders you see as Inbox, Sent, etc. So if you delete the tag, the messages will not be displayed in a folder. They will still be in the All Mail folder though, just without any tags.
