Exactly which PC folder(s) should I Backup, on a Windows for Local Folders?

I use backup software (Second Copy) for important folders. It has nothing to do with eM Client or any other software. I want to back up the eM C Local folders so I can retrieve them if needed.

  1. In the forum in 2017, Gary gave the folder to back up:
    C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\eM Client.

  2. How can I retrieve then extract the backed up Local information?

  3. Will I need em C to do it, or can I read the content in a text editor or word processor?

Thank you for your help.

Normally you would need to restore that backup and then go to “Menu / File / Export” and select (.eml), and then on the next screen select your Local folders and export the messages to whatever folder you want on your hard-disk.

You could also alt “once restored”, just manually create a folder on your desktop or documents folder and then drag any emails you want into that folder as another way to extract your email.

Either way you do that they are then viewable in any .eml message viewer including eM Client and can be imported later anytime if you want either via “Menu / File / Import”, or by just manually dragging the .eml message files back in.

You can do a Partial Restore “in offline mode” to restore that Local Folder data without overwriting your current eM Client data via reading the following blog where it explains how to do that part way down the blog.

If I understand you correctly, I cannot read the content from a backup in a text editor, word processor, or any external software, but only in eM Client. Is that correct?

It’s an SQL Lite database and not normally viewable in a text editor or document editor.
