Upgraded to Windows 11 a couple of days ago, but eMClient did work yesterday. Update offered today and now it will not open. I used to have it start up automatically on starting computer, but that isn’t working either.
There were some problems on installation when it said I had other applications open (I did not) , but I accepted to go ahead with update as no open data (that I knew of).
I have restarted the computer and still the same.
Try the following.
Uninstall eM Client, and “don’t delete the database” when asked on the uninstall wizard.
Then If exists, delete the C:\Program Files (x86)\eM Client folder".
Then reinstall the same or later version of eM Client via the release history page
Lastly shutdown and reboot your computer and see if it opens then.
Thank you. It is working now. I could not find the ‘release history page’ so just downloaded the latest which looks different to before (maybe because I selected a different interface). I did request ‘don’t delete database’ and once set up for my 2 email addresses I have all old emails not deleted but my contacts are empty. I guess I can rebuild those over time, unless you know how I can find and reinstall them.
Ok normally contacts are retained when uninstalling and reinstalling “the same or later version” as long as you don’t delete the database. So as you chose not to delete the database, that’s strange they are missing after reinstalling.
When you click “Contacts” at the bottom left of eM Client, is there anything there at all ? Even look in Local Contacts at the bottom incase they are in there and not under your account.
Now if no contacts at all in the contacts sections, then probably the easiest way to retrieve your contacts “without rolling eM Client back” would be to eg: go online to your webmail and export your contacts to either a .vCard file or CSV file.
Then in eM Client click “Menu / File / Import” and select whichever format you exported and then choose your exported file which will then import.
‘No contacts to show’ in Contacts. I don’t have a ‘Local Contacts’ option on screen. On Webmail there were only 9 contacts, from emails since I revived eMClient yesterday, but I could not find where they were put on my computer - not in downloads or my user files (Users/name/App Data/Local), although eMClient had a folder there with old date (backup I think), plus yesterday folder titled eM Client for Microsoft Store.
PS I’ve also got a problem I had a few months ago where not all emails appear in eM Client, but more (mostly bulk news type emails) including notification of your reply above are only webmail. I found your reply because I looked online on forum. Going through menu options but can’t recognise how I resolved this last time. EDIT - SOLVED this part. I found details about ‘categories’ on another post. Found them in ‘Other’ next to Primary.
I don’t have a ‘Local Contacts’ option on screen.
I presume you have eM Client V10. Go to “Menu / Settings (Preferences) / General / Folders” and place a tick next to the box marked “Local Folders”. Then “Save & Close” Settings.
Then click “Contacts” at the bottom and you should see Local Folders and Contacts underneath. Then place a tick in the Contacts box and see if your contacts are there on the right side.
Found them in ‘Other’ next to Primary,
If you don’t want or use the Inbox Categories, you can go to “Menu / Settings (Preferences) / Mail / Categories” and remove the check marked “Show Categories”. Then Save & Close Settings.
Thanks re categories. Fixed.
Re the ‘Local Folders’ for Contacts - I don’t see the ‘Home (pic) Local Folders’ option - see screen pic of settings & Contacts. Am I in the wrong place?
Make sure (after selecting Local Folders in Settings) that you click “Apply” and then “Save & Close”. Could be its just not saved the Settings completely. Or try close & reopen eM Client.
Note:- When you enable Local Folders & click Apply, you will also see Local Folders appear at the bottom of the Mail Tab as well with Inbox, Outbox etc under that. See if that is also appearing.
I have checked and did ‘Apply’ and save. Also restarted computer and eMClient. I have been busy and decided it is easiest just to try to rebuild my Contacts. Annoying, but seems to be a constant problem with software & system updates often causing unintended problems.
