I installed eMClient on my laptop. Windows11
I choose in eMClient to make it default mail app.
For mail it works fine, but not for the MAILTO protocol.
I tried Windows settings apps default apps but if I search for mailto, there’s only one option: outlook. cannot change that.
eMClient is not in the list and I can only choose from apps in the Microsoft store, instead of browsing with explorer.
I tried Windows settings apps default apps but if I search for mailto, there’s only one option: outlook. cannot change that.
Using Windows 11 (25H2) & eM Client V10.4.5326
Go to “Apps / Default apps” and Open eM Client.
Then scroll down to MAILTO and “click / open it” and set it to eM Client and click “Set Default”. The MAILTO with the eM Client option “is above the WEBCAL” option near the bottom.
Or “Choose Defaults by link type” and then “select eM Client” under MAILTO as per the 3rd and 4th Screenshot examples at the bottom of the post to set eM Client as the default for MAILTO.
If you don’t have eM Client in the MAILTO selection available either way, then could be a registry or possibly a user profile problem in Windows 11.
So suggest if you have the latest eM Client V10 and eM Client is not appearing in MAILTO, then try uninstalling eM Client and “Don’t delete the database” when asked on the uninstall wizard.
Then if you originally installed eM Client from the website, go to the release history page and download and reinstall eM Client, and then “shutdown and reboot” your pc and see if the MAILTO option appears in default. Or if you originally installed eM Client from the Windows Store then download and reinstall it from there.
Then once the MAILTO is set default to eM Client, you can right click on a file in Windows 11 File Explorer and Send TO and click “Mail Recipient” and it will open eM Client and attach the file.
Then as i mentioned above try “uninstalling and reinstalling “and rebooting and see it it appears.
Note: If you do try uninstalling and reinstalling “make a backup first” if you don’t already have backups via “Menu / Backup” incase you need to restore. You can see when the backup is complete in Show Operations via the dropdown on the right of Refresh.
Or failing that as i mentioned, you must either have “a Windows Registry issue” or “a user profile issue” as on a clean Win 11 25H2 eM Client does appear for me personally in the MAiLTO section.
So if uninstalling and reinstalling eM Client has the same issue, all I can suggest “if your competent” is to uninstall eM Client again and then run a registry cleaner and then reboot and reinstall and see if that makes any difference. Or failing that try creating a new Windows OS user profile.
Apart from that you can alternatively contact Official VIP support if you have a current active paid Pro, Personal or Business version via the following page and login and lodge a support ticket who may be able to assist you with that. If you have run out of your 12 months support period, you can get another year support via the following page.
Thanks, after alle it’s not a big issue and I can live with it.
But I’m allways curious.
I won’t go for the reïnstall option or registry hacking. I’m affraid that could cause bigger problems.
As my laptop is in his last year I will accept the mailto problem so far.
I created a new local user.
Same problem. eMClient does appear in the installed apps.
For the protocol .mapimail there is an option to browse the computer and find and connect the emclient executable.
For the protocol MAILTO this option is not available.
I created a new local user.
Same problem. eM Client does appear in the installed apps.
As a new user profile made no difference, then must be a registry problem somewhere.
So I would personally next try “uninstall and reinstall the program” as advised further up and then “reboot your pc” and see if it makes any difference. That just might fix it.
And as mentioned previously “don’t delete the database” when asked on the uninstall wizard.
@peterberghs
This problem occurs on my machine long time ago (idk almost 5/6 years), i was already in touch with support but nothing fixed!!!, i thinks it could be related to localized (non english version, but not all, or windows version, but it could be also others things.
SOLUTION :
-Install eMClient, run it, close it
-Temporarly install PopPeeper, set it at default when asked, then open a webpage or something else which activate MailTo protocol and you can set eMClient, finally uninstall PopPeeper, and check that eMClient MailTo protocol, it must be set, for me it always work.
