Emclient frozen when I return to it frequently

Hi there, since 10.3.2412.0 I am seeing that EMclient is frozen many times when trying to return to it. It is sitting idle, doesn’t appear to be dead, I can bring it up but it is non responsive. I checked my log and do see this.
[0419/155429.459:ERROR:viz_main_impl.cc(169)] Exiting GPU process due to errors during initialization
[0419/171202.078:ERROR:viz_main_impl.cc(169)] Exiting GPU process due to errors during initialization
For now I am planning on rolling back 1 version.

That can sometimes be caused by Eg: Problematic video drivers, or Overclocking GPUs or CPUs.

So check you have the latest video drivers for your specific video card from your manufacturer website, and also if your GPU or CPU is overclocked, try setting it back to default settings and see if that fixes it

GPU is a RTX 4080 super and is used for local LLMs and gaming, and drivers are 100% up to date. I just returned to the machine, unlocked (machine was not hibernating) and emclient was again locked up. I could bring it up but it would not allow any interaction. I am just mentioning this here in case anyone else has issues like this. This is a very stable win10 machine, sometimes a Visual studio project is open for 3-4 days.

Yes, I’m experiencing the same issue, three or four times a day. It is getting ridiculous now.

Does this also happen if its minimised as opposed to being left open in the background ?

Have you thought about upgrading to Windows 11 being Windows 10 is nearly end of life ?

Thanks, no clue if it is minimized but I will attempt it that way today. The machine itself is likely to get wiped and reloaded at some point but Win10 is the gold standard for me as its super stable vs. Win11 on some other machines.

@dma2112 @rw2042 I’m sorry you’re experiencing this, we’d like to investigate these issues further. Please follow these steps to create a system memory dump we could take a look at:

  1. Locate eM Client in your Task Manager > Processes > Apps.
  2. Click the “>” icon next to it to expand all the processes.
  3. Right-click the largest eM Client process and select “Create memory dump file”.
  4. ZIP the created file, upload it to cloud storage of your choice (Drive, Dropbox) and share it with me at [email protected].

Thanks.

Thank you! I just sent via Wetransfer. Please let me know if you don’t receive the email. Note I had 4 emclient processes so I dumped each of them and prefixed each with 1_, 2_, etc.

hah while checking email the process froze up again. I am resending dumps with in the frozen state. Sent at 9:22am est.

Thank you! I’m happy to say we able to identify the issue from your memory dump and our development team is working on a fix.

Much appreciated!

Kim, do you know if this fix made it into the release 10.3.2545.0 that was just released?

Yes, it is fixed in this version. Thank you for your help and patience.

I have downgraded to Version 9. I am fed up with Version 10, which freezes on my Mac running Big Sur. Totally hopeless. Version 10 is fine on Windows but hopeless on my Mac. I can’t be faffing with this; it needs to work.

I personally are not getting any freezing on Mac Sonoma or Sequoia using the latest V10.3.2622 from the release history page, so if you have already tried that version, then could be eg: your older Mac OS is not designed for V10. Or you have some other underlying issue.

Apart from sending in a memory dump test as @Kim_Fisher advised further up in this thread, eM Client supports the last 3 OS’s “with every new major release of eM Client”, so being that you still have the Big Sur OS, which is 5 OS’s ago, a lot could have changed in the Mac OS” that might now also be required for the latest eM Client V10 to work.

So suggest if you can, to upgrade your Mac OS to at least Ventura and then see if eM Client 10 works properly. If you carnt upgrade, then you might need to stick with V9 depending on what eM Client found from your memory dump results. If you haven’t sent in the memory dump send it in.

“Mac OS releases”

|macOS Sequoia|15.6.1|
|macOS Sonoma|14.7.8|
|macOS Ventura|13.7.8|
|macOS Monterey|12.7.6|
|macOS Big Sur|11.7.10|

Kim from EM Client Support created several custom builds, and after reviewing the logs, I am pleased to report that the issue is now resolved with a special build for Mac 11.7.10 Big Sur that works fine. Excellent service. Thank you.
