Emails Displaying as Plain Text Only

Dear all,

Two days ago, I encountered an issue for the first time (and I’ve been using eM Client for years).
Regardless of the IMAP folder (Inbox, Sent or Trash) emails are displayed only as plain text instead of HTML.

This is particularly frustrating for new emails, as they often appear incorrectly or with missing content.
To temporarily fix the problem, I run a “Repair” on the affected folder and wait a few seconds until everything looks fine again.
However, the issue returns after the next email arrives, when switching folders, restarting the app or even rebooting Windows.

Has anyone experienced a similar issue or found a solution?
For reference, this problem does not occur on my mobile devices (where I use Apple Mail and Outlook) or on my work laptop (Outlook).

What I’ve tried so far:

Uninstalled eM Client
Deleted the database
Reinstalled the latest version
Downloaded the database
Reimported my settings (including accounts)

Thanks for your attention and any suggestions you can share.

"Right click in the Body of the email” and select “Format / HTML” on the popout menu that appears. Could be that you are only in Text mode.

Hi @cyberzork,

Thank you for taking the time replying and your proposal.

In fact, HTML was already selected.
I experience behavior of pure oddness: Some emails appear just fine and as I’m used to, other are just blank (sometimes saying “Preview not available”). And another heap appears as plain text.

Ok as you already have html selected, then could possibly be some eg: non standard html code in those senders emails or you might have the Privacy settings restricted in Settings or you might possibly have an older or outdated version of eM Client.

What version of eM Client do you have ?

Go to “Menu / Settings (Preferences) / Mail / Privacy” and “try setting the Privacy for a test” to: “Display unsafe content in all messages” to see if that makes any difference ? If that works, then you just adjust it to what you want above that.

Hi @cyberzork,

Thank you very much for following up on my case.

I received tons of emails in the last years through eM Client and they have never caused any issue - it happened to become a problem from one day to the other just recently.

I’m using eM Client V10.3.2619.

Thank you for pointing me to the privacy settings which I visited a while ago to ensure pictures are being downloaded promptly for incoming emails.

The current setting was and is this:
