Hello,
I uploaded my PGP key to eM Keybook and have now received an email with an attachment named verification.asc. The email itself says: “This is an automated verification message to verify the email address and holding of private key from eM Keybook.”
Is that correct? Do I need to do anything else now? And what does “holding of private key from eM Keybook” mean? Has the private key been uploaded now?
I immediately removed the key from eM Keybook. But in the overview under Certificates/Key Pairs (in Settings), there is still a red icon with the tooltip “Uploaded to eM Keybook.” When I deleted it, I received an email with a file named Verification.txt containing the following: “This is an automated verification message for key deletion to verify the email address from eM Keybook.”
Somehow, I’m not sure now whether the key was uploaded
If that doesn’t help you, then suggest if you have a current active paid Pro, Personal or Business version go to the VIP Support page and login and lodge a support request.
If you have run out of your 12months support, then you can get another year support via the following page VIP Support Extension | eM Client
Hi, the first verification email is to confirm that you are the owner of the public key that was uploaded.
This is to stop others from uploading public keys that do not belong to them.
You do not need to do anything else; the email is just to confirm that the uploaded public key has the matching private key in your eM Client app, from which it was uploaded. Private keys are never uploaded to the eM Keybook, of course.
The second verification is also exactly what it says - confirming that the deletion of the key was requested by the PGP keypair OWNER, to ensure no one else could delete your key from the eM Keybook service but you.
If you want to double-check if your key is uploaded now or not, go to Settings > Signing and Encryption > Key Lookup Services and search for the email address your key is registered to in eM Keybook.
It should tell you whether a key for that email was found or not.
If they key is still there and you want it removed (ie. the original removal failed) reach out to [email protected] and include details on which email address the key was for.
