eM Client version 11

Hello,
I installed version 11 on my first user session, and it works perfectly. However, it doesn’t work on my second session; I am unable to launch it. I uninstalled everything to try installing an earlier version, but I am told that the new version must be installed—which is causing the problem on the second session. What should I do? Thanks for your help.

Bonjour,

I just installed the version from Microsoft on Session 2 and it works, but I am being asked to purchase a license, even though I have a Pro license on Session 1. Thanks for your help.

I presume you have two computers when you say session and you had a later V11 Beta being it wanted a newer version.

Try uninstall eM Client and “don’t delete the database” when asked on the uninstall wizard.

Then go to the release history page and download and install the latest version 11 Beta and see if eM Client will open again.

If it still won’t open, then suggest to “first close eM Client” and then go to the following hidden database folder and “rename it” to eg: eM Client-Old. Then reopen eM Client and setup as new.

(Windows hidden eM Client database folder)
“Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\eM Client”

If you have an IMAP, Exchange, Office 365 or iCloud account all your emails, contacts, tasks etc will automatically come back from the server.

Alternatively if you did make a backup prior to upgrading to V11 Beta, then uninstall eM Client and “delete the database” when asked on the uninstall wizard and then go to the release history page and “download whatever version you had previously” and reinstall that version. Then open eM Client and “skip the setup wizard” and restore your backup via “Menu / File / Restore”.

If you then want to trial V11 Beta “close eM Client” and go back to the release history page and download the latest version and install again.

I just installed the version from Microsoft on Session 2 and it works, but I am being asked to purchase a license, even though I have a Pro license on Session 1.

Sounds like you have V10 on your second computer from the Windows Store installation.

If you don’t have a V10 Personal 3 device license or don’t have a Pro multi license or never had the Windows Store version before and want to get to V11 Beta to trial it then do the following.

First if you have a POP account or have data in Local folders, go to “Menu / File / Export” and export any email, contacts, tasks etc you need to a folder on your desktop.

Then uninstall eM Client and “delete the database” when asked on the uninstall wizard. Then go to the release history page and download and install the latest V11 Beta and see if that opens.

If it then opens ok and If you have an IMAP, Exchange, Office 365 or iCloud account all your emails, contacts, tasks etc will automatically come back from the server

if you had to reset up a POP account as new then once setup and working go to “Menu / File / Import” and import your messages, contacts, tasks etc from your desktop folder you exported prior to uninstalling V10.

Hello cyberzork,
I have two user accounts on one computer: one for myself and one for my wife. When I updated to version 11 on my account, it didn’t install on the second account and actually blocked the version already installed there. So, I uninstalled the version on the second account to install version 11; however, a dialog box now claims that version 11 is installed, yet I can’t find it on the second account—there are no buttons and the software itself is missing. Consequently, I installed the version from the Microsoft website (10…) on the second account; it works, but without version 11. Since I had backed up the database, I was able to recover everything. However, I don’t know why that account won’t accept version 11. Thanks for your help.

Bonjour cyberzork,

I have two user accounts on one computer: one for myself and one for my wife.

Do you have two different accounts under the one eM Client profile ?

Or

Do you have setup two different user profiles within one eM Client ?

Or

Do you have two different actual computer login user profiles ?

Hello,
I have two different user profiles within the same EM client.
Before version 11, everything worked fine, and the update was applied to both profiles.

Bonjour,
J’ai deux profils utilisateur differents au sein d’un meme client EM.
Avant la version11 tout fonctionnait bien et la mise à jour se faisait sur les deux profils.

Ok could be then your two profile databases setup are clashing in eM Client.

Make sure “in your second profile” that you “specify a different database folder path location” to set it up in, as per the below example via “Menu / Settings / General / Profiles”.

Suggest to create the second profile database “outside of the hidden database folder” just to be on the safe side such as in eg: Documents / JohnSmith . Also check that you are using the latest eM Client 11 Beta V11.0.158 from the release history page as it has alot of fixes.

cybersork,
Je ne peux rien faire car il m’est demandé d’avoir une licence pro que j’ai sur la session 1

I can’t do anything because it requires a professional license, which I obtained in session 1.

V11 Beta doesn’t need a license untill released.

Hello cyberzork,

I can’t install eMC on session 2; a dialog box tells me that eMC 11 is already installed, but I can’t find it.

You don’t install eM Client again for a second profile on a single installation. You just “switch to the second profile” via “Menu / Profiles” once setup as per below example screenshot.

If you don’t have a second profile showing under Profiles menu, then go to “Menu / Settings / General / Profiles” and click “Create” at the bottom and follow the new profile wizard as per example screenshots below.

Note:- Remember to create the second profile database “in a different location path” on the second screen of the wizard to avoid any potential profile clashes eg: Documents / JohnSmith or Documents / eM Client / John Smith.

Then once the second profile is setup, then “Save & Close Settings” and you should then see the second profile “via the Profiles menu” at the top left.

Next “click the second profile in the Menu” which will then open up “via the automatic account wizard” to setup the account for that profile.

After setting up the second profile, you can also setup eM Client to show the profile manager on startup via “Menu / Settings / General / Profiles” & check “show profile manager on startup”.

Lastly you can also set whichever profile you want as default & what colour you want by “right clicking” on the profile name via Menu / Settings / General / Profiles" as per below example.

Hey @

As @cyberzork advises…

Note:- Remember to create the second profile database “in a different location path” on the second screen of the wizard to avoid any potential profile clashes eg: Documents / JohnSmith or Documents / eM Client / John Smith.

This really important because if you don’t do this and at some point decide to delete a profile you WILL lose everything.

cyberzork,
If I understand correctly, I need to uninstall eMC version 10 from the second user session and create a profile in eMC version 11 on the first session.

I have no idea how you have V10 installed and V11 on the same Windows user login profile unless you installed V10 from the eg: “Windows Store” instead of the website, then maybe that can install separately in the registry on the same Windows login and still allow both to work.

So as you have V10 & V11 installed, then “don’t uninstall V10” as that might also cause V11 to stop working due to it’s been installed on the same Windows login.

Just open eM Client 11 and “create the new second profile” and “add the account” as I advised above in my previous post further up.

If you then need any emails, contacts, tasks etc for your second new profile after setting up the account “if it was a POP account or you had emails etc in Local Folders”, then close V11 and reopen V10 and go to “Menu / File / Export” and export anything you need to a folder on your desktop.

Then once exported, close V10 and reopen V11 and “switch to the new second profile” via “Menu / Profiles” and go to “Menu / File / Import” to import your exported data from your desktop folder.

cyberzork,
I think there’s been a misunderstanding; on Windows 11, I have two accounts (or user sessions)—one for myself and one for my wife.
I cleaned out eM11 and eM10. I reinstalled eM11 on my account, but I can’t get it onto my wife’s account; with older versions, I had eMC on both accounts. How can I make eMC accessible on my wife’s account?
Thanks.

Do you and your wife login to Windows with the same login or different logins ?

Or in other words “before the desktop appears” do you see a prompt to choose your logins.

Yes, we each have a command prompt with a different connection.

Ok so sounds like “you have different Windows user profile logins”. Normally you only install the one eM Client version on Windows which then works across multiple Windows logins without reinstalling eM Client on each Windows profile and it just appears under the Start button. It’s only the license that you might change depending on the license you have whether personal or business.

However as you have eM Client V10 installed on your wife’s Windows login, you might now have a registry problem with V10 & V11 installed together on the one computer causing V10 not to open, but try a new database first to see if that fixes it.

So “after logging into your wife’s Windows login” go to the following eM Client hidden database folder and rename it to eg: eM Client-Old to test a new database. Then try opening eM Client.

(Hidden database folder Windows)
C:\Users%username%\AppData\Roaming\eM Client

If eM Client then opens ok, you will see the new account wizard to setup as new. If your wife’s account then is an IMAP, Exchange, Office 365 or iCloud account all her messages, contacts, tasks etc will come back from the server end once the account is re-added.
