eM Clien for iOS takes up 15 GB of iPhone storage. I have disabled news downloads. The search also does not work, eM Client only searches the server for the set period “Message synchronization time period”, for example 3 months back. In order to search the entire history, I have to set “since forever”. But then it takes an awfully long time to synchronize after starting, and the application grows to a huge 15 GB, as if it were saving messages to the device.
eM Client will cache messages for offline use if you have that option enabled. That means the database will be as large as the emails and their attachments that are cached. You can change that by going to settings and tapping on your account, then on IMAP, where you can toggle the option for downloading for offline use.
The server search should give results if the server supports it and there are no server issues, and you have enabled it. You enable it by tapping on the search icon, then on the settings cog and toggling the server search option. It will search the server and give up to 100 results from all the messages on the server regardless of what sync time period you have in eM Client. Of course if the server doesn’t support it, and you aren’t caching messages, you won’t get results.
That’s a problem. I don’t need to have messages stored on the device taking up 15GB. But I need to search all the history and that is not possible without saving the messages to the device with eM Client. Everything depends on how I set the synchronization, whether a month, 3 months, forever. It only searches this set sync. The server supports it. This is not a problem with other email clients :(. It’s a shame, otherwise eM Client would be great.
I have the new version of eM Client 10.0.2643 for iOS, but the problems described in the first post are still not fixed. The application downloads all emails to the device regardless of whether offline downloading is enabled or disabled. The size of the application then grows to enormous dimensions. Server search also does not work as they describe. Searches for messages only according to the set synchronization period. Does anyone have the same problem? Support pretends everything is fine.
Yup. Same problem here among others
Is there anyone else having the same problem? Or, on the other hand, someone for whom the search works and the application does not take up a lot of space on their iPhone/iPad? Could you please share my setup so we can compare with each other?
I run eM Client 10.0.2643 on an iPhone SE under iOS 16.6 and my app+data takes up 0.51 GB of storage. I have much more on the IMAP servers. eM Client server search works for me on iCloud, Gmail and Yahoo accounts, after selecting the appropriate Search Options. These appear under the cogwheel button after tapping the magnification glass icon.
Using the latest eM Client V10.0.2643 on my iPad OS 17.5.1 using my Gmail IMAP and Live IMAP accounts which have online mailboxes approx 12+ GB each.
I have set in the app to “sync all time” and “each account setup with the messages set to “sync all time” and “download messages for offline use and search in message bodies”. Also set in each account in customise download options to “full messages without attachments.
After the sync is fully complete, the iPad eM Client storage Documents and Data as per the screenshot below is only 1.78GB so that is excellent and no issues for me.
Note: If I set the customise download option to “message list only”, the iPad storage Documents and Data is only approx 600MB. So both options are working fine for me.
That’s interesting, I have the same iPad iOS 17.5.1 and the same eM Client V10.0.2643 and also the same eM Client settings, but the messages download completely to the device. I’ve tried different settings, deleting the app and data and doing a clean install and all the messages are always downloaded to the device’s memory anyway. It does not affect whether offline download is enabled or whether you set to download only a list of messages or entire messages. He still behaves the same. The only difference is that my accounts are on seznam.cz servers connected via imap. It would be good if one of the programmers checked the functionality with seznam.cz.

Yes does sounds like it then could be related to that imap server as you said, as “those customise download options should make a difference and they are not working” as you said. Probably need to have your eM iOS app logs investigated by mobile support to determine why it’s happening.
What mail server are you using with your iOS Device ?
I use the mail server imap.seznam.cz, imap.email.cz also works, but both behave the same
It’s gmail across all my domains and email accounts
so also problems on gmail. So the error will not be in the seznam.cz mail servers, when the same problem also occurs on gmail.

What size in GB are your online Gmail mailboxes ?
Also do you have more than one Gmail account configured in the eM Client iOS app ?
Lastly do you have your Gmail account configured the same as I do as in my screenshot example above or different option ?
