I have setup eM Client (9.2.2144) on MacOS and it has been working ok. I renamed a parent label in Gmail webmail and although that change has been updated in eM Client on the Mac, none of the emails that are in/with that label show in eM Client even though they are there in Gmail web under the given label.
I could try removing the account from eM Client and adding it back, but I downloaded all the messages and attachments which took a long time so I’d rather not do that again.
If I now add one of the labels to a new message the new email shows in eM Client but not the existing emails with that label. In the webmail the existing ones are there plus the new one labeled in eM Client. So it seems like some kind of issue with eM Client re-populating with the labels for the labels where that parent label has been renamed…
Ok i haven’t found that to be a problem with the Mac version & Gmail accounts before. Normally when eM Client refreshes next any folder / label changes in a Gmail IMAP account online will reflect within a few seconds or so, unless there is possibly something delaying it running resident on the computer, or eM Client has possibly got out of sync with your server mailbox and needs to be repaired.
So first just try “closing and reopening eM Client” and then “click Refresh a few times” to force it to check for Gmail changes online. Also try clicking on the “All Mail” folder in eM Client & click Refresh.
Failing that, if you have any eg: Optionally installed Firewall / Security programs, or Optionally installed Antivirus programs or VPNs “other than what comes default with your Mac”, try completely disabling those to test incase of any interference.
Next you might need to completely clear the local cache in eM Client for that Gmail IMAP account to get your Gmail account resynced. To do that “Right click on the Gmail All Mail folder” and then click “Properties at the bottom”. Then click the “Repair tab at the top” and finally click “Repair”.
Note:- After the repair is completely, your emails will be slower to re-read till fully cached again.
The only other option you could try apart from repairing the Gmail account is eg: If you have been making regular backups of eM Client either manually via file / backup along the top, or automatically in eM Client Preferences, you could restore a recent dated backup on the Mac when you know it was working ok via “file / restore”.
So that would then once restored, sync all new mail changes since the backup “including your new parent label and new label messages” from your Gmail account online back to eM Client.
Many thanks @cyberzork repairing the Gmail All Mail folder was the solution that worked
In the process of resolving this I found it is a repeatable issue, if I rename a parent folder eM Client will ‘loose’ all the main in the sub labels/folders and I will have to repair the Gmail All Mail folder again. This seems like a bug, not sure if there’s a way to report it but it’s something that may be good for others to take note of if they plan to rename parent labels for gmail with eM Client on Mac.
Yes you are correct that this does appear to be a bug with the latest Mac eM Client version. I can replicate that too when i tested that with my own Gmail account.
I see when you rename a Gmail Parent Label with messages in Sub folders online via the browser, the parent label changes ok in Gmail online and still shows the messages ok in the sub folders online.
However eM Client when it next refreshes / sync, does show the renamed parent label and subfolders ok, “but no messages are showing in the sub folders” any longer where it should be showing them.
I did found if you rename the parent label “back to what it was called previously” either online in Gmail or in eM Client the sub folder messages will reappear. So yes that does appear to be a bug.
Lastly i found the sync issue is “only when you rename the parent label online” that the sub folder messages disappear in eM Client when it syncs. But if you rename the parent label in eM Client the sub folder messages are still visible in eM Client and are also still visible in Gmail online.
Thanks @cyberzork for looking at replicating this too and submitting it as an issue. For me it did seem to happen even when renaming the parent label in eM Client, not just in Gmail online. The good news is the repair on All mail fixes it, but with a large amount of email this can take many hours, so hopefully a fix can be found.
Cheers. G
I renamed a parent label in Gmail webmail and although that change has been updated in eM Client on the Mac, none of the emails that are in/with that label show in eM Client even though they are there in Gmail web under the given label.
I’ve heard back from support and been advised “this is an actual Google issue” where the Google server doesn’t report the changed tags on the messages, so there is nothing to sync in the renamed folder.
So if you are currently going to change parent labels with messages in sub folders in Gmail online, you will then have to run the Repair on All Mail in eM Client “as you have done already” to re-sync eM Client labels to match Gmail online labels. As until you do a repair on All Mail, there is no way to know that the messages have a new tag. Hopefully Gmail fix that down the track at their end.
So best to do any renaming parent folders in eM Client which will then sync ok to Gmail online.
For me it did seem to happen even when renaming the parent label in eM Client, not just in Gmail online.
I personally don’t have any issue with renaming parent labels with subfolders in eM Client and automatically updating to Gmail online using the latest Mac eM Client V9.2.2202. It syncs the parent label name change in eM Client to Gmail online within a few seconds. All messages are visable.
Note:- If you don’t see that parent label or sub folder label change in Gmail online after updating / changing it in eM Client, refresh the browser Gmail online Inbox.
