Hey @TonyT

If this has only just happened since you updated, then could be the installation didn’t go correctly or messed with your database when it upgraded, perhaps a background program is interfering.

First if you haven’t already try "shutdown and reboot your computer”.

If this makes no difference, then “shut down eMC”.
Uninstall eMC, and if you have Windows “DO NOT delete the database when asked"
.Then reinstall from:
RELEASE HISTORY
for PC or Mac to see if that fixes it.

DO NOT BOOT eMc until after reinstall.
(We ALWAYS shut down eMC before ANY Upgrade)

This is usually the first step, however, other disk problems can cause this.
If the reinstall doesn’t help you should check your drive for errors

How to Check Disk for Errors using Command Prompt:

1./ Press Windows Key and tope CMD in Search
2./ In Right Panel Click “Run as Administrator”
3./ In new window type chkdsk C: /f/x/r & Click Enter
(there is a space between chkdsk & C: or other drive)
4./ If drive is in use tyoe Y & Click Enter
5./ System will restart PC & disk will be checked on boot
(if possible any errors will be repaired)

Hey skybat —

After 45 years with the world’s 2nd largest computer company, I’ve got the shut off and beboot down to a science!

While chkdsk and dism (my suggestion) are both good tools, the fact that right after the em Client udpdate it started to freeze tells me that em Client needs to take responsibility for figuring this out and solving the problems they created - and at BARE MINIMUM sending out the definative step-by-step instructions rather than the generic chkdsk/dism/remove-reinstall advice.

Hey @TonyT

I am NOT employed by eMC and you should keep in mind that offers
to help are made by users who have to assume that in many cases
enquirers do not have the in depth knowledge that you claim.

We have never had an issue of any sort with eMC

That being the case I am surprised that you are searching for a solution
on this Forum, profane language will not help.
I am sorry I can not help you further and suggest that you open a ticket
with eMC Support.

Profane language? Sober up.

@TonyT

If uninstalling and reinstalling the program hasn’t helped and running a disk check or database repair also hasn’t helped, then you might have a database corruption that is not able to be repaired so is freezing.

So suggest next to test with a new database. To do that, “close eM Client” and then go to the following hidden database folder and rename it to eg: eM Client-Old.

(Windows hidden eM Client database folder)
“Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\eM Client”

(Mac Hidden hidden eM Client database folder)
“Users\yourusername\Library\Application Support\eM Client”

Then reopen eM Client and “if you have a recent eM Client backup” when you know it was working ok “Skip the setup wizard” and restore your backup via “Menu / File / Restore” and then go from there. Any new emails etc since the backup will update when eM Client reconnects.

Or if you have no backup then go to “Menu / Accounts” and setup as new. If you have an IMAP, Exchange, Office 365 or iCloud account all your mail, contacts, tasks etc will come back from the server end once the the client reconnects.

if you had a “POP account or you had messages in Local folders”, then first make a new backup via “Menu / Backup”. Then once backed up, “try doing a partial restore in offline mode” from your old database to export messages, contacts, tasks etc you need as per the following webpage documentation link.
