I prefer to have my eM Client Database Folder on another drive than the default. I keep it on D:\Mail\eM Client and take a full backup of it every night.
I have tested eM Client for less than a week now and it have lost my settings two times now. When i start eM Client it starts as if it was a first launch, iow urging me to set up everything. It´s easy to cancel out from that to being able to go to Settings > General > Storage and set the custom path back again.
Now it is set to the default C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\eM Client and i can change it back to D:\Mail\eM Client and restart the app. Now everything works again and mail/calendar/contacts and all settings done are there and works as expected.
I have Outlook´s *.pst file on the same drive but in a different folder without issues so the computer/disk is ok.
Why do eM Client have problems with sticking to the custom path for the Database Location. Why does it “forget” it so often? Is it a known issue? (Two times in less than a week is often)
Hi, we’ve been looking into what could be causing this behavior. For now, there’s also a way you should be able to troubleshoot it to stop it from happening:
create a second profile (Settings > General > Profiles)
set the storage path to your location of choice (D:\Mail\eM Client)
back in Settings, right-click the new profile to make it default
restart the app
Please let us know if you run into any issues with this.
@Kim_Fisher I did that now but it cannot be done right away since it “collides” with the profile i already had, iow Default.
I had to move the eM Client folder it to another drive > set the storage in the settings to the new path > save&close > Open eM Client to confirm that everything worked. Then i could copy back the eM Client folder to D:\Mail\eM Client and create a new profile and setting it to the defualt one.
Is it safe to delete the original one named Default now?
Additional info:
Since i posted this original thread it has happened two more times, one time at my main computer and one at my test computer, so four times in total now.
I will do this troubleshoot step on the other computer as well and will report back my findings!
I can confirm that with update to eMC v: 10.4.5606.0 that storage does
defer to default C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\eM Client
Also Using a Profile (I have 4) it works as changed to given locations
