em client and imap protocol violations / parse errors

I just discovered eM Client and it looks very promising. I was looking for an alternative to thunderbird or outlook and I’m quite confident that em client is a rock solid e-mail client.

However there is an exception that is a blocker for my daily usage and also I would not recommend it yet to our customers (I work for an hosting provider).

The imap synchronization often fails when the imap box contains certain messages. I understand it’s about a protocol violation, a parse error. Okay maybe the mail server vendor (smartermail) doesn’t respect 100% the RFC standard, but it should just skip that particular message and continue with the synchronization.

Until this issue has been adressed the client is quite useless for us and for our customers.

The same mailbox has been tested with Thunderbird, Outlook, mail client on android devices, without any issue. Maybe these clients are more permissive about the standards but at least it works.

Is there any plan to allow the synchronization to continue even if a protocol violation has been encountered ?

I am not aware of any plans but there might be workaround to this.

Please send your IMAP logs, go to tools - settings - advanced, check IMAP under your account, apply and restart eM Client.

Simulate steps that leads to your issue and after that send logs… to [email protected] together with this topic’s URL in subject.

then you can turn logging off.

with your logs I might be able to see what is really happening and ask developers about this.
