Is it possible to have more than one Visual form of query? When I choose email and flag nothing shows up in the search folder I created. If I deselect email or flag it will then have the search results appear.

can you please specify or screenshot the Search folder settings?
Could it be that no message fits all the criteria or is in the folders marked for the search?
