can you tell me which release you’re running ? Its in Help > About section.
Also check if you made an exception in windows firewall for eM Client, not just anti-virus.

Emails from a certain sender used to show up and now don’t. I have tried every setting recommendation mentioned above. I don’t have anti-virus, windows defender is turned off and I don’t even see eM Client on the list of apps to let through my firewall. My OS is Windows 8, my version is 6.0.23181.0, and I use firefox 39.0 currently.

can I ask what account does this issue happen on? Is it gmail, hotmail or other? Is it and IMAP, POP or Exchange account? Are you able to view the images on a webmail client?

Hotmail, IMAP (or whatever the default setup is), and yes, I am able to view the images on my webmail client.
