Do not retrieve account at startup

Is there a way to exclude an account from automatic retrieval when the program starts? I have an account that is only available occasionally. However, I can only exclude the account from automatic retrieval, not when the program starts.

In Settings > Accounts, select the account you want to exclude and untick "Include when sending/receiving emails. Save & Close.

If you have an IMAP account, emails from the server (are pushed to you realtime) so “it won’t make any difference” disabling include when sending and receiving mail.

However if you have eM Client V10, you can now “exclude mail account folders” in the IMAP account setup, so you can then just lock it down to only the mail folders you want to synchronise.

Otherwise the only other option for an IMAP account, would be to go to “Menu / File / Work offline” but of course then none of your other accounts would then sync mail.

If you have a POP account apart from what @John_A advised about removing the include when sending and receiving mail, you can go in eM Client V10 to “Menu / Settings (Preferences) / General” and remove the option to “Download messages from POP3 accounts at startup” under Synchronization as in the example screenshot below. Then save and close Settings.

You can then “manually click Refresh” when you want to check that POP mail account.

This does not work on startup. The client still retrieves the messages when it starts.

This server (IMAP server) does not support Push-IMAP and it is located in a closed network. So it is not possible to send push messages. I would like to have an account that only receives manually, neither at startup nor automatically after a certain time. The other accounts must continue to work, however. I think this configuration is not possible.

Ok normally if your IMAP mail server (doesn’t support Push-IMAP), then with the “include when sending and receiving mail disabled” in the account, then eM Client “shouldn’t in theory” normally check mail on startup as would be like a POP account. However that might be hardcoded to do that anyway and would need an eg: extra additional option added to eM Client Settings “like has been done with POP to not check on Startup”. However i doubt there would be enough users to warrant programming that as most users want IMAP account emails realtime.

So as it still receives mail on Startup with Push-IMAP not enabled on the mail server, then in your IMAP account setup in eM Client (General Tab), you could eg: “Disable IMAP” under Services & Save Accounts, where then “it won’t check that account” and also “won’t show that account” or its exiting mail account folders until IMAP is re-enabled.

Or alternatively, you could eg: speak to your Mail server admin support and maybe see if they can set up to eg: Lock access to that specific mailbox “at certain times other than when you want to check it”. You will obviously though get an error in eM Client when its not accessible.
