Do not automatically show (and mark as read) first mail

Resurrecting this post to say this SHOULD be the default behaviour. Outlook and Thunderbird have been working like this for ages…

To everyone who tried to give a solution without taking the time to read / understand what we want, here is a detailed description:

  • When starting EM Client, we are taken to our default starting mail folder, and the first email in the list is automatically selected, which makes it marked as read after a few seconds if this is how our options are set.
  • This is not what we want, and it’s not how Outlook and Thunderbird work.
  • We want, when we open EM Client, to be taken to the same folder, but without any email being selected and nothing shown into the preview pan (Thunderbird even takes the opportunity to display a welcome / ad page).
  • Why do we want this? Because we want to be able to open EM Client without being forced to actively look at our emails right away to prevent the first email to be marked as read and being lost later on if we sort the folder differently or mistakenly taking it for a read email when we actually didn’t read it.
  • Why not deactivate auto-read timer? Because we want to use auto-read timer, we just don’t want it to start automatically on the first automatically selected email when opening EM Client.
  • Like I said, this has been a standard feature in Outlook and Thunderbird for ages, because they do understand that this is what the default behaviour should be.
  • EDIT: I forgot, this should also be the behaviour when switching folders, because every time we switch folder the same thing happens. In Outlook / Thunderbird, when you select a folder, it does not automatically select the first email in the list. Imagine having unread mail in multiple folders, and selecting a folder randomly (which marks the first email read after a few seconds), but then selecting another folder because you were not in the correct folder, but you did not notice that the system marked an email read in the previous email. This is a big NO for anyone who took the time to write on this post (except the geniuses who provided bad solutions).

Thanks
