Looking at this very old thread
I wonder if this is doable today? I’m testing emClient and I love it. I might even buy a license. So I’m investigating all these details. I love that you can set notifications per account (essential for me). But I don’t really want to be notified on Promotions/Social, that’s part of the sense of those categories (my dear and simple Windows Mail did it but it’s been killed as it was by MS).
Maybe some rule or other setting will do this? Thanks!
As far as i’m aware, there is no option in the program “to only enable notifications for just one specific Gmail Category”.
There is only a Setting in V10 to enable or disable “the number of Recent messages” or “the number of Unread messages” in all Categories via "Menu / Settings / Mail Categories.

Yea seeing popup alerts for Promotions/Social emails is too annoying. I had to just disable all the notifications.
Using V11 Beta 11.0.282 you can go to “Menu / Settings / Notifications / Mail” and check the box “Do not show notifications for messages in Category”, and select the categories you don’t want to be notified via the dropdown field on the far right as per the example screenshot below.

I don’t see that same option on the mobile app. Where is this located in the mobile app ?
I’m a beta tester on the Android Play Store, so perhaps it’s not available in the non-beta version? In beta, the navigation setting is: Settings, Gmail Account, Notifications, Do not show notifications for messages with category
Yes doesn’t seem available for me in the non Beta version. Other users on this forum might comment on that if they have the Beta version. What version have you got ?

The option does work, but there’s a limitation. When a new message arrives, our push server notifies the app. The app then has to run in the background and connect to your IMAP server long enough to find the message and check its category. If Android doesn’t allow that (or connection cannot be made in time), we can’t apply the filter, so the notification is shown just as it came from the push server. unfortunately.
To give the app the best chance, go to your phone’s Settings > Apps > eM Client and make sure background data is allowed and battery use isn’t restricted.
Please note this setting is part of the officially released app (there’s no BETA right now) but is available on Android only, since iOS does not allow for background operations.

All BETA installations should be replaced by the “official” app (which version 11.0.1263 is).
If you stay in the BETA program, you will get BETA versions next time we release a new major version for testing. There just isn’t a version set “for testing” right now 
You can join and leave the BETA program through the Google Play Store any time.
