Differentiating Multiple Windows in Task Bar

Update: I was running eM Client 9 on Windows 11 23H2. I installed eM Client 9 on another machine with Windows 11 23H2 and observed the same problem.

I upgraded to eM Client 10 and the problem is resolved.

Maybe this is already possible, in which case this is request for help on how to do it…

Otherwise, this is a suggestion for enhancement.

I switched to eM Client as my main platform for everything Exchange/GMail a few months ago. I usually keep three eM Client main windows open: Inboxes, Calendar, and Tasks. I would really like it if the title of these main windows could change based on what view they currently show, so I can tell them apart in the task bar. It would be even nicer if optionally they could change the icon they display.

They already have the window names in the taskbar previews. Just hover your mouse over the eM Client icon group:

Windows mode is Dark, app mode is Light, but otherwise all OS settings are default.

Thanks for the response. But I wasn’t asking how to use Windows  I already know that part. I was expressing my preference that these would be visibly distinct so I can hit the right one without hovering. Also, I run without task bar icon grouping.

Just to reiterate, this is just a personal preference, so like a single vote for an enhancement, not claiming there is anything wrong with the software

They are already displayed like that:

Ok I will investigate what “make my Windows 11 look more like old Windows” setting I have running that is making this not work for me. Thanks for the screenshot.

Update: I resolved the issue by upgrading to eM Client 10. I was on eM Client 9. I did verify that there is a problem with eM Client 9 on Windows 11 23H2 by installing on another machine with that OS and seeing the same window title issue. Windows 11 didn’t see the title changes I guess, since it doesn’t show them in Task Manager either. In any case, this is not a problem with the latest eM Client.

Differentiate Multiple eM Client Windows on the Taskbar

Using Windows 10, click on Start / Settings / Personalization / Taskbar and in the Combine Task Bar buttons select “Never”.

Using Windows 11, click on *Start / Settings / Personalization / Taskbar / Taskbar Behaviors" and set Combine Taskbar buttons and labels to “Never”

(Windows 11 Example)

Yes, that’s how I always run.

Are you saying that eM Client 9 works correctly on Windows 11 for you? I have stopped investigating it, since I no longer use the old version now, but it might be relevant to the developer if someone else could confirm they saw the same thing (or not.)

@derammo

Yes, that’s how I always run.

I was just checking that you had the Taskbar Behaviour set to Never which you advise you do.

Are you saying that eM Client 9 works correctly on Windows 11 for you?

Yes you are correct that using the latest eM Client V9.2.2280 on Windows 11 23H2, even though you enable “Never” combine in the Taskbar Behaviours, it still “only shows the title eM Client” (on any section you minimise) as in the 1st screenshot below just tested now, compared to eM Client V10 on Windows 11 23H2 “which does show the actual section titles” when minimised.

(Task Bar Behaviour set to Never combine icons using eM Client V9.2 & Win 11)
Inbox, Calendar & Tasks sections minimised shows no titles.

Thanks for checking. If they want, they can file a bug against version 9 that is already resolved in 10  but at least now we know.
