Difference between All Inbox, Unread, and Inbox

Each of the listed boxes show the same number of emails. Thought I was missing some emails so was searching around and find that even though email count shows same, that emails in the unread portion are different that in All Inbox and Inbox. Can someone explain this please. Is there a way to show one inbox with all the same messages? Thanks very much…Ponder

The Unread email folder shows emails unread “from all of your account folders / labels” and not just from the Inbox of account folders.

Thanks for that Cyberzork, but I am not understanding this. I use spam assassin to mark spams in the subject and then when those spams come to me, I have a rule that sends them to a specific folder in EM Client. All other emails come to me in the inbox. Spam assassin misses some so I see them and send them to trash if they are spam. The unread emails are not marked as spam by Spam Assassin but then did not get sent to my inbox. Then landed in Unread. What makes them go to the unread folder rather then the inbox. ??

What makes them go to the unread folder rather then the inbox. ??

If Unread emails are only showing in your Unread folder in eM Client, then it’s because "either you have a rule setup to automatically move those specific messages to another folder / label within your account when they arrive “so you won’t then see them in your account Inbox or All Inboxes” and only then see them in the Unread folder.

Or you have Categories enabled “if you have eM Client V10”, where those Unread messages “are sometimes in another Inbox Category tab” like eg: Promotions, Social, Updates, Other, so “then won’t show in your Primary Inbox Tab”. So when emails arrive, eM Client like “Gmail, Outlook & others” sorts messages by default into various Categories based on what’s in the email content "unless you disable that option when installing or upgrading to V10.

So firstly “right click on the emails in your Unread folder” and then click “Properties” at the bottom. You will then see what account folder / label those messages are in. Now if the message is then in a folder / label “that matches a rule you have setup”, then remove that specific rule via “Menu / Rules” which then will show again in your account Inbox.

However if the message Properties in the Unread folder points to a folder / label “that is not one of your eM Client rules”, and is in a folder like eg: “Promotions, Social, Updates, Other”, and you have eM Client V10, then sounds like you have Categories enabled and you need to “look on the right of your Primary Inbox” and click the other various Inbox Tabs to see those messages.

So if those messages “are then in another Inbox Category tab”, you can either “drag the messages back to your Primary Tab” Or “Right click on the subject of those messages” and select Category tabs and select your Primary Tab. Those messages will then always appear in your Inbox Primary tab in future. You will see a confirmation box appear when you either drag or select a different Category tab with shortcut key options.

Or you can “Disable the Category tab” if you don’t want it or Disable All Categorys if you don’t want any, by “Right clicking on any Category tab” and unchecking whatever Category you don’t want via the dropdown menu that appears, or Hide all Categories if you don’t want any via the dropdown.

You can also disable Categories if you don’t want them via “Menu / Settings / Mail / Categories”.

See the following eM Client video on V10 new features which explains Categories in it.

Hi cyberzork: I found categories for the first time since I started with EMC. Person is mentioned but it says to send those mails to the Primary inbox. No rules have been written except sending incoming mail with the spam Assassin note in kthe subject to trash…this is working fine. Also says there are over 2200 mails in “Unread”. I’d like to close this category tab and transfer the mails to my inbox…Can you suggest a clean way to do this please…Many thanks again…

I think I got it done…eliminated the category tabs, unchecked categories, then all the unread emails auto transferred to my inbox…so am going thru and deleting…there were 4 category tabs and a note something about google Gmail…deleted all that too…so I think this has been solved…and thank you again for all your help…Ponder

Yes “disabling all Categories” with no rules setup or enabled on the Inbox, will then show all unread new emails back in the one Inbox like in V9.

Hi Cyberzork. Thanks again…I thought I lost thousands of emails as my inbox turned up empty…but found the emails in All Inboxes and in unread. I sense I have lost control of my email destiny…All I really want is one Inbox, and my rule to work as it is now putting the mails that they mark with SPAM into deleted or trash for my review when I get to it…Is there a previous version I can go to…? Don’t have a clue how this stuff centering around unread came from…but I need to eliminate it…Thanks…Ponder - Bill

Hold up for a minute please.…now I have all my emails in the AllInboxes folder and in the inbox folder…and the spams and those I have deleted are in the trash…I think this is were I was and want to be…No need to go any further I dont think…thanks again Ponder - Bill
