Creating Rules "On message Received" vs "On message Sent"

I’m trying to create a new rule that gets processed after I sent a message.

First off, I’m kind of at a loss as to why there are different “sets” of rules for “Local Rules” versus certain accounts like those hosted on Exchange.

I like to use rules to move messages into different folders after I send them. (I don’t use my Sent Items folder for all my sent items… i want to manually file messages certain places in certain cases.)

When setting a “Local Rule” i seem to be able to create a rule that executes upon message send. When trying to set a rule for one of my Exchange account, this functionality does not seem to exist. Why is that?

UPDATE: even stranger, when I create rules under anything besides “Local Rules” they not only don’t work the usual way, they won’t even run. Those rules are “enabled” with a checkbox but i can’t ever click the “Apply” button to run them and using a right-click context menu will also fail to do anything upon Application of the rule.

What is the purpose of classifying Rules in different buckets like that? There must be something I’m missing. Rules created under any of the Exchange accounts shown in this drop-down seem to never work, never run, and can’t be manually applied/run either.

I think the purpose of clicking “the server rules” in eM Client is that it eg: just shows you what rules you already have setup on the server end so only a way to view them.

So then if they are not right, you then go online to your server filters and change or modify them.

I don’t think you can directly create or control them in eM Client which is why the Apply option and creation of server rules doesn’t work or run.

However I could be completely wrong and maybe they do work with eg: only certain types of mail accounts. Not 100% sure on that.

No, you won’t be able to as they are server Rules. They are executed by the server, not eM Client.

Local Rules run only when eM Client is running.

Server Rules are executed by the server, so run regardless of whether eM Client is running or not.
