why does it take at least 20 minutes for the program to start again after it crashes? it checks all files, and it is a long process. is there a way to bypass this? thank you. and I have all the latest updates.

No if you bypass the database check you might completely corrupt your eM Client database and if you keep doing that if might then never start up.
So If you are getting database checking on startup that usually means either eM Client is not being shut down or closed 100% before you shutdown your OS
Or if you are leaving eM Client open and shutting down in eg: Power off sleep mode and might need to be using Power off sleep “Hybrid mode” instead.
Or you may have an actual mail database error and might need to create a new account from scratch.
So if you shutdown eM Client normally before shutting off your OS, wait a few secs before you shutdown your OS eg: 2-5secs and see if that fixes it. That will give eM Client time to completely close the mail database in the background.
Eg: If you have a mechanical (non SSD harddisk) it might be taking a few seconds longer to close the database. Or if there is alot of other programs running resident in the background at the time of closing eM Client, it could take longer to close if it’s a very large mail database.
Now if you are leaving eM open and shutting down in Power off Sleep mode, try changing your power off sleep mode to Power off Sleep Hybrid mode. Some laptops and desktops have that OS option.
Lastly if you are already doing the above, then could be an actual eM Client mail database error where you could then do two options.
One option would be (if you have been making regular eM Client backups manually via the menu or automatically in the settings) and have a recent dated backup “prior to when this issue started”, you could try restoring that via “Menu / File / Restore” (Pc) or “File / Restore” (Mac). Then if you have an IMAP, Exchange, Office 365 or iCloud (Non POP) account, any new emails since the restore will appear when eM Client next connects.
Now if you don’t have any recent eM Client dated backups prior to this current database startup issue or restoring a recent dated backup didn’t work, then you would need more than likely need to remove your account/s and readd them.
So If it’s an IMAP, Exchange, Office 365 or iCloud account, then just remove and readd your account/s and your mail will just reapear shortly after adding. It will initially be slower to read till fully cached again.
Now if it’s a POP mail account, you would “first create a folder down in eM Client Local Folders” at the bottom left called eg: Old Mail, and then drag / move all your current mail and mail folders under Old Mail. Then once you are certain all your old POP mail and folders are under Old Mail, "remove your mail account and readd it as new. Then finally drag / move all your old POP mail and folders back up to your new POP account.
Lastly once you get it working ok, create a manual backup of eM Client in case you have problems later.
