A question about keeping contacts sync’ed across multiple devices… I’m hoping to ditch both Microsoft Exchange and Outlook (desktop). My contacts are all saved in the Exchange account and eM Client has downloaded them perfectly.
I was really hoping that I can disconnect the Exchange account, have eM Client on both my Windows desktop and my Android phone, and still have the contacts sync between them.
That would include, for example, WhatsApp being able to recognise the contacts associated with their phone numbers, again on both Android and Windows (in the WhatsApp desktop app).
I do also have a Gmail account - it’s one of the mailboxes. It doesn’t currently store contacts, but I don’t mind if it does, replacing Exchange.
Can I “move” the contacts from Exchange to Gmail within the eM Client interface? Drag and drop, mass update, or export/import, then wait for it to update Gmail, remove the Exchange account from all devices, and continue to see all the contacts on all devices as if nothing had changed?
Or, do I need to do that… will eM Client simply sync them anyway across all the devices on which it is installed?
Yes once both the accounts are added into eM Client via “Menu / Accounts” using the automatic account wizard at the top, you can click “Contacts” at the bottom left. Then click on your Exchange acct contacts and select all and then drag them at one go to your Gmail acct contacts.
Then click the dropdown on the right of Refresh top left and click Show Operations and will see when that’s completed. It shouldn’t take too long to move contacts. You might also want to “go online into your Google Contacts” to dbl-check they are all there ok.
Then remove your Exchange account once all your contacts are in Gmail via “Menu / Accounts”.
All done, and it’s working perfectly. Time to cancel the Exchange plan with Microsoft. Who have managed to come up with a new version of their Outlook client which works with free accounts, but not with their customers’ paid Exchange plan accounts. Utterly bizarre but gave me the push I needed to ditch them altogether. Thank you.
