I lost all my contacts for no reason. Basically one of the main reasons I chose to use this email client.
I had no backup. So I want to learn how to use backups. I use Mac as my operating system.
I go to FILE > Export and then export them as Contacts.vcf
So I see the file but it won’t let me import it…
when I go to FILE > IMPORT and then go to choose the file ‘Contacts.vcf’ - it won’t let me. That file is greyed out and won’t let me select it… please help.
If you want to backup eM Client including your Mail, Calendar, Contacts Task and Notes etc, the best way is to use the backup option built in.
You can either setup the backup automatically using the periodic backup via “Menu / Settings (Preferences) / General / Backup”, or you can regularly manually backup via “Menu / Backup”.
If you manually backup, you can see when that’s completed in Show Operations via clicking the dropdown on the right of Refresh top left.
Either way creates dated backup.zip files by default in your “Documents / eM Client” folder which can then easily be restored if you need to anytime via “Menu / File / Restore as per the blog below.

Try re-exporting your contacts manually to a eg: "different hard disk folder”, in case it didn’t write the .vcf file to your current folder due to maybe a possible permission folder issue. Normally eM Client exports and imports .vCard files ok.
See the documentation how to export and import to vCard file below.
Lastly you could eg: move your contacts to a cloud account with an IMAP, Exchange, Office 365 or iCloud setup, where then you don’t have to worry about backing local contacts up.
