Out of blue today, my Emclient wont connect to Office 365 email server. The pop up for user name and passoword just keeps popping, wont go away when I select and enter.I tried changing the password at the server, no change. I cant decipher the log file. HELP. just wont authenticate exchange
The email provider no longer accepts username/password logins, so you won’t be able to use that login method anymore. They should have warned you that they were no longer supporting basic authentication, but maybe they didn’t.
Please go to Menu > Accounts and remove the account.
Then click on Add Account and enter the email address in the Automatic Setup. You will be passed to your web browser to authenticate the account, then back to eM Client where the account will have been setup with Modern Authentication.
Thank you Gary…so if I delete my account, wont I lose all my folders? Or, do I have to backup, then delete account, create new one, and restore it using the backup?
Chris L, did you get a reply to that last question? If not, did you figure out the answer to it another way? Thanks.
I got no reply, so had to deal with this on my own. For me, I didnt like the fact that 365 was synching all my email to some server I dont trust. I found that by going back into settings, and de-selecting the two synch options, it doesnt do that anymore. I thought the synch was to check for mail on the server. Apparently, it still does it even when disconnecting.
In order to solve my other issue with accounts, I had to create a new account, using new login creds. I left my local folders in my old POP account. So now, I have to look at two email accounts. The one selected as Primary is on top, and it has the Emclient folders…inbox, sent, etc… The one on bottom is my old POP and I just rename it as Archive two keep my old local folders. If you migrate the old folder to the new account, itll end up synching all the folders to 365. At least I think it will because I havent had time to find out.
Cheers.
I bit the bullet and got it done.
Deleted the existing (and failing due to the authentication issue) account first because I had to. I use eMC free and I have another account on there, so adding the new token-authenticated one before deleting the failing one would have blown my two account limit in the free version.
It went fine.
I have about 2.4GB on the account, so sync’ing took an age (not eMC’s fault) but all completed OK.
Hello,
On June 2 my Godaddy stopped syncing. They gave warning but I thought I had the exchange settings correct as I was using exchange and getting emails. It is stuck in a loop asking for username and password. I have the server set to https://outlook.office365.com. Also triedhttps://outlook.office365.com/EWS/Exchange.asmx. Everything else is set to my actual email address and password. It keeps saying authentication failed or wrong credentials. Any ideas? Using eM Client 7.2.5
You have to create a new account and migrate your data. New acct using new creds
After I create a new account, it starts to download all email from the server. How do I prevent that and just restore from back up from my old POP3 account?
create new account, list it as your primary so its on top. go into settings and deselect both synch buttons. itlll ping mail on its own. Then, when its offline, you can drag your local folders up to the new account. Do it methodically, so if you get messed up, you can fix it. I just left all the locals below it in the old POP account, and renamed it Archive. If you have synch selected in Emclient, itll synch every single folder in your account with the server, every time it pings the server.
All of my emails and folders are in the pop3 account and not in the local folder. Is there an easy way to migrate them to local, and then move them? Even though I backed up my pop3 account, I am afraid to delete them and loose all of my years of business emails that are organized in folders. Really appreciate the help…

To stop your POP server mail from redownloading the same messages in eM Client inbox again after re-setting up your POP account, (if you already have all of them in eM Client), close eM Client and then go online to your POP account webmail and delete them from your inbox. Then reopen eM Client again.

What I would suggest is first create a folder in eM Client Local Folders at the bottom left called eg: Old Mail. Then copy all your current POP mail account messages and folders “exactly as they are” under Old Mail.
You can then easily copy or move those back to a new POP account or any other IMAP, Exchange, Office 365 or iCloud mail account once done.
Also when you store messages in Local Folders, you need to backup eM Client (if you don’t already) either automatically or manually regularly as they are no longer stored on your online server and you could loose them if you had a eg: hard-disk crash. Also backup your Documents / eM Client folder where the dated backup.zip files go by default.
To setup automatic period backups, go to “Menu / Settings / General / Backup” (PC) or “eM Client / Preferences / General / Backup” (Mac).
To manually backup eM Client, click “Menu / Backup” (PC) or “File / Backup” (Mac).
