Compatibility issue Nord VPN and AVAST

I cannot download my gmail,
However this can be corrected by either.

  1. Turning off my VPN connection (Nord) OR
  2. Turning off Mail Shield in my AV program (AVAST)

This is a section of the Event log when mail is blocked.
Download command failed with exception: MailClient.Accounts.ConnectionException: Failed opening connection to server.
09:58:34.088|026| —> System.Net.Sockets.SocketException (10049): The requested address is not valid in its context.
I can see an old question involving certificates, but this is from 2020 !!
Hope someone can help
Steve

Unfortunately VPN’s can sometimes block mail clients due to the nature of how they work.

So if you have already configured NordVPN to allow eM Client via the Nord VPN Support site and uninstalling and reinstalling makes no difference, then it could be the eg: Nord VPN server you are connecting to, and “you might need to try the different Nord VPN global servers”, as could be a VPN routing issue.

Now if you have tried all of the various different global VPN Server connections, then you will need to contact Nord VPN support for assistance.

Turning off Mail Shield in my AV program (AVAST)

Yes AVAST and also AVG are known to interfere with alot of mail clients including eM Client. Most users just end up “disabling the mail shield” as you have already done, so AVAST “is still resident in memory” to intercept viruses, but just doesn’t interfere with eM Client receiving mail.

You can optionally though try exporting the AVAST mailshield certificate, and then importing that into eM Client via the “Menu / Settings (Preferences) / Signing and Encryption / Manage Certificates”. That sometimes has worked, but no guarantee. See below.

Cheers cyberzork.
Importing the certificate didn’t fix it.
So I have disabled ‘scan incoming mail’ in Avast, leaving other mail features on. That seems to be a fix if not ideal! I have a ticket open with Nord VPN, as I pay for that. See if they come up with anything.
Doubt it though in my experience this sort of problem leads to a lot of Buck Passing, especially if some of the Apps involved are free versions!
The GEEK:AREA thing in Avast is useful to know thanks for the link!
