I’m writing to see if you can help me with character encoding because I’ve received several emails that aren’t being displayed correctly. It’s as if the messages are arriving in ANSI mode instead of Unicode.
It might be a Hail Mary but it is worth trying. To fix non-Unicode program language issues in Windows 11, for example, go to Control Panel >> Region >> Administrative >> Change system locale.
If unchecked, check the Beta: Use Unicode-8 for worldwide language support box.
Click OK and restart your PC.
An alternative method to access the Region Settings: Press Win + R, type intl.cpl, and go to the Administrative tab and continue as above.
It is recommended to check the Use Unicode UTF-8 box to improve compatibility for modern apps, though this may cause issues with some older applications. Changing the system locale changes the default code page for older applications, while the Beta: Use Unicode UTF-8 option attempts to make Unicode the standard for all apps.
I followed the steps you gave me and didn’t run into any problems.
Now I just have to wait for a new email from the company that sent them to me and check that the problem has been resolved.
