Changing from Windows 10 laptop > MacBook Air M4

Hi all
I’ve used Windows PC since they were first sold (now have Windows 10 laptop).
I’ve had enough of Windows and have just bought a MacBook Air M4.
Using Chat GPT for some help (risky I know), I have done the initial basic Mac setup and used Migration Assistant to transfer some files (the eM Client folder from the AppData\Roaming\eM Client was one of them.
I’m now at the stage to install my old Windows favourite applications (like eM Client), Firefox, Office and others, on the MacBook with the Mac versions.
I see an older article in the eM Client FAQs about moving from one computer to another (New device and eM Client? No problem! | eM Client ) and just wanted to double-check either Option 1 or 2 are best to follow, or is it different going from Windows to Mac?
Anyone have good experience with this type of move and have any advice for me?

Easiest method is to use the “Backup and Restore where you basically manually copy the Windows backup.zip file from your “Documents / eM Client” folder to the same folder on your Mac computer.

Then install the same version of eM Client and when it opens, “Skip the wizard” and then restore the backup via “Menu / File / Restore”. Then just check it’s activated via “Menu / Help / License”.

Thank you. So I should probably just delete the full Folder that got transferred across from AppData\Roaming\eM Client before I do the backup zip copy… just so eM doesn’t get confused when I install the Mac version?

Yes get rid of that on the new Mac before you do the restore as all of the hidden data folder gets restored when you restore the backup.zip

Lastly you can get all the various eM Client versions for Mac to install on the release history page if you dont have it.

Thank you. I just found some quiet time to do this and it’s all completed successfully :+1: :slightly_smiling_face:
