Change Password

I’ve changed my password on my GMail account but I can’t find where to change it on eM Client. I’ve looked at Accounts in the menu but there’s nowhere to change the password.

If you initially used the automatic email Gmail acct setup via the wizard which now uses an OAuth token instead of a password, then you won’t need to renter a new password in eM Client as it won’t show a password field.

However if you manually setup your Gmail account via the add / other option in accounts using either a standard password or app password, then go to “Menu / Accounts” and click on the “IMAP or POP tab” and you should then see a username and password field to enter it.

I cannot get it to work following a forced change by Gmail.

I cannot get it to work following a forced change by Gmail.

If you were using previously a POP Gmail account, you just first go to “Menu / Accounts” and Click “Add Account” and follow the automatic account wizard to setup your Gmail IMAP account.

Then once added, drag / move all your existing POP mail and mail folders up to your Gmail IMAP same account. Once you are then certain all your old POP messages are in your IMAP account, then remove your old POP account.

However if you previously already had a Gmail IMAP (non POP) account and you can’t get it to work since the Google changes, then we need more information as to what’s wrong. Are you getting an error message. Have you tried already removing and readding your Gmail account. What version of eM Client are you using.

I followed other suggestions but they did not work. A message just had a spinning mark turning with a message saying ‘this may take some time, please wait’. After 20 minutes I decided it wasn’t going to work. So I deleted the profile that didn’t work and when it had cleared all its files, I recreated the profile. That takes a while to reload the old messages but that can run in background.

Near the end of the automatic account wizard, you will get a window appears asking to give eM Client access to your Google account.

Once you have done that, you then should see “at the very top of your browser” a popup small window appear that has a check box to click to always open eM Client. Once you have done that you should then be automatically returned to eM Client GUI and receive your mail etc.

So if you just get a spinning mouse after giving eM Client access to your Google account “and no popup small window appears to allways open eM Client”, then try clearing your current browser’s cache and cookies etc. or failing that, try setting another browser as the default. Restart your computer after setting a different browser.
