Can't delete contacts

I am trying to clean up my address book and when I try to delete a contact it says “Unable to remove the item, because the account is read only”. This has only started to happen recently.

If that’s a eg: Gmail account “Other” contact, you have to delete that online via the Google Contacts page below as it’s a read only folder.

https://contacts.google.com/

When you open the above page, “click the Menu at the top left” and click “Other contacts” to delete.

If it’s not a Gmail Other contact, and you have an IMAP, Exchange, Office 365 or iCloud account, close eM Client and go online and delete that contact and then reopen eM Client which should shortly show that contact deleted once synced.

Sometimes that can happen if its a eg: “Shared Contact” by another user of a company or organisation etc which has read only permission.

Lastly if the read only contact “is not online in your contacts” and only in eM Client and “is not a shared read only contact”, then “close eM Client” and “try running the database repair”.

Note: Before running the repair, make a manual backup via “Menu / Backup” incase you need to restore for any reason. You can see when the backup is complete in Show Operations via clicking the drop-down on the right of Refresh.

To manually repair eM Client database for Windows or Mac, see @Gary post link below.

Thanks for this, worked perfectly.
