Can't connect to Gmail thru eM Client

I used eMC with gmail for years (on a very old version of eM), but recently had to move everything to a new machine and now, despite many hours of effort still cannot get eM to successfully link to gmail servers.

Details:

  1. Windows 10 Pro
  2. eM version 9.2.2307.0
  3. Verizon (AOL) is running fine with eM. And gmail works fine in Chrome browser (so not a gmail account issue)
  4. POP is disabled, IMAP is enabled
  5. I’ve deleted and re-added gmail many times (including manually) unsuccessfully. Installation always appears to be working fine, but at the conclusion, no gmail to be found in eM though gmail is shown on the Accounts page.
  6. I’ve deleted and restarted the eM connection from within my Google account
  7. Cache has been cleared, and there are no third-party anti-virus programs running
  8. Computer’s been rebooted many times
  9. I’ve tried reauthorizing services (IMAP, SMTP, Contacts, Google settings) from the eM gmail account page which always returns a “Connection could not be created while going offline … Abort” message. I have a high speed connection and no problems with any other programs. All network drivers are shown to be working correctly.
  10. Clicking the gmail.com entry on the eM Accounts page, then clicking “Set as default” results in the message “Unable to set … default account required to have both IMAP or POP3 and SMTP email services enabled” which, as far as I can tell, they are.

Basically, I’ve tried every suggestion I could find in this forum, and still no luck. I have a feeling there’s a simple answer for this, but, despite my adequate IQ, suave good looks, and semi-irresistible charm, I can’t figure it out. HELP, PLEASE.

I recall I had to give permission for em client to access my gmail, I think I gave permission on my phone (or was it in an email to gmail? I don’t remember). Try looking in your gmail on a device that’s still accessing your email to see if permission is being asked for em client to access your gmail account. Or your cellphone, look for a notification prompt “Yes, it’s me” (accessing my gmail on a new platform). You might need to try a fresh installation to generate the authentication check.

The permission to access gmail was in place. I have tried removing, then restoring that permission, but got no positive results from doing so.

Do you see em client mentioned in your google permissions? Below is what I see in my account, I installed em client Oct 28, 2024. https://myaccount.google.com/notifications

POP is disabled, IMAP is enabled

When you say POP is disabled, are you referring to the Gmail account? Or another account?

Gmail…

Under the “Forwarding and POP/IMAP” tab Gmail shows “POP is disabled” and “IMAP is enabled”…

Can you screenshot that.

Google Accounts shows

Sorry, accidentally chopped off some at the top on the prev SS -

Ok I will check mine to compare later.

Also are you running and eg: Optionally installed Firewall Security programs, other than the default OS stuff ?

No, just the default Windows stuff.

Ok Your Gmail online setup “Forwarding and POP/IMAP” tab looks the same as mine.

Now if you have allowed eM Client access to your Google Mail near the end of the automatic account wizard, then you should see an eM Client OAuth token in your Google Account Security Third Party Apps section as per the 1st example screenshot below. I have 2 tokens as i have also allowed eM Client access to my Google Drive.

So if you have the same in your Google Third Party apps “which looks like you do”, then “try also enabling the 2 Step Verification” option if you haven’t already in you Google Account Security. See if that makes any difference.

Apart from that, i can only suggest to eg: try a new test computer user profile, to see if its anything to do with your current user profile.

Or try eg: disabling all background “non OS user related startup items” to check if something starting up on the boot is possibly causing the connection issue.

Been tied up all day, will try your suggestions tomorrow. Thanks.

Figured it out. I wasn’t checking the boxes Google needed for EMC privileges. The Google verbiage was unclear to me, so I was skipping those and just clicking the Next button on that page.

Thanks for your time and assistance. :upside_down_face:
