Hi,
I note all you have said and agree that it is quite possible that something “strange” has happened on my laptop.
I am not an inexperienced computer user and have in the past worked in IT and in IT support. However, as I am retired for many years I confess to not being up to speed with W10 or later.
The only cleaner I use is Wise Care 365. I have used it for years without any problems and am very careful in what I allow it to do, I have no problems with the install or deletion of any other software than EM client. From when I started using it it was very finicky and I have raised issues with support before regarding installation/upgrading and have had to completely un install, wipe clean and reinstall several times.
I think that if you have this situation with any software, for whatever reason, it is best to avoid using it if possible, in the hope of not messing up your whole system and the problems that causes.
So that is what I am doing. I am moving to other email software that I have used previously without any issues.
Thanks for all of your advice and input regarding my problem. It is much appreciated.
Did you try creating a new Windows admin user profile ? apart from trying the Command line DISM and SFC checker / repair suggestions and the Microsoft Tool as in this thread.
Yes I did but no difference. All very strange and too much effort now to struggle with it

From what you say you give the impression that eM Client is faultless and that any issue with the operation of eM Client is as the result of a failure elsewhere, but if this was the case there would never have been any “bug fix” or compatibility or other updates for eM Client, and with the right or wrong conditions, every program ever written has bugs of one sort or another.
I doubt that is the case, we have in excess of 20 years experience and capability providing IT support working exclusively with Blue Chip companies including Legal, Insurance, Banking, Government and Military throughout Europe, North Africa, Middle & Far East.
We are not convinced that eM Client is installation and upgrade is fault free.
For instance issues can be caused with particular circumstances if sync is working when an update is pushed and started with this being even more likely if eM Client is set to run on system start up. It can make too many process at the same time.
We believe the safest way to upgrade is with eM Client closed/shut down and always only after making an update of your current installation.

It is not necessary to shut down eM Client yourself to install an upgrade. Whether you install the upgrade from an msi file, or you do it through check for update, if eM Client is running it will correctly cease operations and shut itself down to perform the upgrade. In fact, check for update is the preferred method, and that can only happen when the application is running.
From what you say you give the impression that eM Client is faultless.
No eM Client is not faultless, but I’m saying these upgrade installer issues in this thread “are related to the OS in some way”.
I guarantee that if the users in this thread who have these upgrade installer problems eg: “did either a complete reset of the OS keeping their user data” or “a clean install of the OS” eM Client would install and upgrade perfectly.
Something has gone wrong in the OS “since they originally installed eM Client”, where the upgrade eM Client installer now can’t find what it needs.
As I said, I’ve seen this type of thing happen “with all different Windows programs & sometimes Mac programs too” over the years. In all cases I’ve been able to fix them, and (has always been related to the OS in someway) & not the program.
We have in excess of 20 years experience and capability providing IT support.
I’ve personally done more than 40yrs of IT corporate and IT home support work so do know what I’m talking about.

This is exactly the point “something has gone wrong” with your assumption being the OS, only once did we accept the offer of an upgrade from eMC and allow it to run, this failed and we now have an SOP to minimise or eliminate this when installing and more importantly upgrading eMC, we have never had an issue since, (deconstruct the eMC .msi file to see what is the eMC upgrade procedure and what it covers), the SOP also applies to other apps.
We do not suggest that you do not know what you are doing but we do think there is some hyperbole in your statement as this is when Mac & Windows were released in their most basic form: MacOS - early 1984 & Windows late 1985

I’ve done way more than Windows and Mac in IT support and are experienced in many different OS’s “that came out way before Windows & Mac”.

I know that is fact and not assumption “from years of OS IT experience” that these installation upgrade issues in this thread, “are OS related & not eM Client related”. Windows in particular is a very delicate OS “and doesn’t take much to go wrong with it” particularly in the registry.
Mac OS is generally much better due to the way programs install and upgrade as it doesn’t have a registry, and so I very rarely see much go wrong with it, like with NeXTStep, Amiga and Unix systems in the past having spent years doing support IT support work on those as well.
However if you believe that these issues in this thread “are eM Client related”, you will need to submit that proof to eM Client Support directly of exactly what caused these issues so they can fix it.
Ps I’ve also done a clean install of Win 10 and 11 in the last day and “no issues like in this thread” installing or upgrading with any versions of eM Client V9 or V10. So i carn’t fault it.
