Cannot sync with outlook calendar

For a couple of weeks now I’ve not been able to sync with my outlook calendar. Enabling the airsync log reveals a log entry like ths

17:58:57.919|038| Exception: MailClient.Accounts.ConnectionException: Found invalid data while decoding.

I guess Microsoft may have changed the format of the data? Is this a known issue? It’s a pain since that’s where I keep my main calendar.

I just started using em yesterday and cant force/set it to sync my outlook calendar

Try “repairing the Outlook Calendar” to resync it with your online calendar which should fix that.

“Right-click on the Calendar” and click “Properties” at the bottom. Then click the “Repair tab” at the top and finally click Repair.

That will delete the local cache and resync the calendar with the server.

If that still doesn’t work, then if you have been making regular eM Client backups either automatically via “Menu / Settings / General / Backup” or manually via “Menu / Backup” then you can try restoring a recent dated backup when you know the calendar was working ok via “Menu / File / Restore”.

Now if you don’t have any backups or restoring a eM Client backup didn’t fix the problem, then suggest to next go to “Menu / Accounts” and remove and readd your Outlook account using the automatic account wizard at the top.

Mine is now not showing any events, just a blank calendar. It was working fine yesterday. All events show in Outlook online.

I did a calendar repair - no different.

I removed and readded the account - no different.

One thing I notice in Accounts is that although under the account name it says “Mail, Calendar, Contacts” there is no Calendar option to tick/untick under Services. (If I look at my second account (Gmail) it has a Calendar option under Services).

I did a calendar repair - no different.
I removed and readded the account - no different.

See if you have “AirSync” enabled under Services in the General Tab under accounts. As you need AirSync to sync your Outlook Calendar and Contacts.

I had tried reauthorising and repairing.

However I went through the new account wizard to add it again and it’s working now. Then I deleted the old account.

Yes, AirSync is enabled. IMAP and SMTP are ticked but greyed out.

Not sure if it’s relevant but my email address is not outlook.com but live.co.uk

Also regularly getting the “folderhierarchychanged” error. Repairing the Calendar doesn’t fix that.

UPDATE: uninstalled and reinstalled EMC doesn’t fix it.

I can add an event in the calendar and it shows in the Outlook calendar online.

I can add an event on Outlook online and it DOES pull it down to Emc. It just isn’t pulling the existing events down from the Outlook calendar.

No errors or fails in the Airsync log.

Guten Morgen,

==================================

Was müssen Sie tun?

Hello…
…my calendar hasn’t been synchronized with Outlook for a few days either.

If you’re receiving this email, you’re currently using a mail or calendar app with a less secure authentication method to sign in to your Outlook.com email account. You’ll need to update your third-party mail and calendar app to a version that supports modern authentication.

If you have an Outlook POP or IMAP account and “been using a legacy username and password to login to your account in eM Client”, then you need to remove and readd your same account “using the automatic account wizard” at the top of “Menu / Accounts” which then uses the newer OAuth secure passwordless token which normally fixes that.

If you have a POP Outlook account “don’t initially remove your account”. Just add your same account via the automatic account wizard which will setup as an IMAP account. Then once setup and working, drag / move all your existing POP messages and any custom message folders to your new IMAP account. Then once you are certain all your messages are all there, remove your POP account.

If you still have the same issue, check that you are using the latest eM Client for whatever version you currently have, as could also be you might have an older eM Client version that needs updating. You can see all the various versions for Pc and Mac via the release history page.. If you do update to a later version, close eM Client before updating.

Note:- Before doing anything, make a manual backup of eM Client via “Menu / Backup” incase you need to restore for any reason. You can see when the backup is complete in Show Operations via clicking the drop-down on the right of Refresh.

Now if removing and re-adding your Outlook account and / or and updating eM Client still doesn’t update / sync your Outlook Calendar, then sometimes that can be related to eg: Optionally installed Firewall / Security programs or Optionally installed Antivirus programs or VPNs. So if you have anything like that installed other than what comes default with the OS, then try completely disabling those to test incase of possible interference.

Lastly if you still have Outlook Calendar sync problems, “that might then be problems at the server end” and I would contact your Outlook server technical support to check if they have any current server issues affecting your Calendar.

I think the weirdest thing is that it clearly is synching because if I add an event in emc calendar it appears in Outlook online, and the other way around: an event created in Outlook pulls down to emc. It just doesn’t pull down anything that already exists in Outlook.

Doing a Calendar repair removes those new events I created as tests making it blank again.

Same here…
After deleting and re-connecting this Outlook-account I only get the new events from Outlook and Outlook got the new ones from EMC.
But there are NO elder dates in EMC…

  • Newest version of eM-Client
  • No Updates available
  • using “AirSync”

Fehlermeldung aus eM-Client:

“[AirSync] Synchronization error (SyncStateNotFound)”

This is back. From looking at the log messages my suspicion is that the authentication token in use contains characters that are being too strongly validated by emClient and rejected. Sometimes the token will not contain these characters and be accepted.

Guys,

This is an ongoing issue that me and others have raised many times in the past.

Search the forum. eM does not work correctly with AirSync and the eM team does not recognise it as an issue. They say that DNS servers or ISP have something wrong.

This is frustrating and honestly I would switch to another app but it appears that there is no decent email app in the market.

You’re quite right. I added my outlook.com account again, but I still have to repair my calendar and tasks every day.

I have both a Gmail and Outlook calendar, and intended to migrate towards outlook.com through emClient. I’m going back now, and will use outlook.com in emClient only for email.

Shame on you, emClient.

Please see:

If it helps anyone to know that it can work - my calendar and contacts syncing with outlook.com is now working correctly, with Modern Auth, and without repeatedly asking me for credentials. Like for many others it had stopped working when Microsoft made their switch. I don’t know if something was updated there, or with emClient (I have the most recent version), but a few days ago I deleted my outlook account from emClient, then readded it using the automatic wizard. The Microsoft login page popped up and I was asked to confirm access for emClient. It then asked to start emClient, after which everything has worked well since. Note: if I canceled the “start emClient” question from Microsoft then it did not finish the setup.

Let me know if I can help by a debug log or something.
Could some extra buffering help?
