Cannot create a simple rule

I have rules for moving a message to a folder when received from someone but … now I can’t create a new rule. It says that: “A required value for the rule condition “from people” was not set.” … but it was. I even created a contact from the message and selected the “add from contacts” option. Still doesn’t work. I only have three rules. I even deleted one rule in case the free version had some limit. No joy. I am using version 8.2.1659 which is current.

I got it to work by choosing the wildcard “contains” in the e-mail address. Doesn’t make sense why entering a complete e-mail address … or selecting from contacts … doesn’t work.

Can you give us a screen shot of the rule you are having an issue with?
Go to MENU > RULES, select the rule and take a screenshot.

Two years after this post, and I am having the same problem. I go to create a new rule, select
Received and select "Received From A Specific Person, add the e-mail address from my contact list, but it won’t allow me to select the folder. I tried selecting the folder first, and then the e-mail address, and doing it that way allows to me fill all the parameters, but it still will not allow me to select Next. Lately, e-nails from that person are suddenly going to Junk Mail, which never happened before, they always showed up in my Inbox, but now they are going to Junk Mail instead. The e-mails are properly going to the Inbox on the server (Spectrum Webmail), but not em client. Just to be sure, I added the e-mail address to the server’s whitelist, but that did not change the messages going to Junk in em client. I should mention that I use Blue Mail on my phone, and those same e-mails, which are going to Junk in em client are properly going to the Inbox in Blue Mail. In addition to whitelisting the e-mail on Webmail, I also created a rule (without a problem) to ensure that the messages are going to the Inbox. As I said, they already do, but I am trying everything possible to resolve the problem. Also, there is no error message from em client, it simply will not let me select Next.

A Rule won’t change that, as Rules only apply to new messages in the Inbox. They won’t apply to messages in other folders.

If the message is in the Junk folder, normally it is your server that puts it there, so you will need to login to their webmail interface, select the message in spam, and mark it as not spam. Thereafter the server should always leave messages from that sender in the Inbox.

But it can also be caused by eM Client moving the messages if you have previously blacklisted the sender or their domain. If that is the case, go to Menu > Settings > Mail > Blacklist > Manage Blacklist. See if the sender’s address or domain is in the list and remove it.
