When I try to add something to the calendar i get the following error: Failed to save item because account is read-only

How do I correct that?
Some calendars are read-only, like holiday calendars for example. Some shared calendars may be like that as well, and Internet calendars are always read-only.
Before you save the event, choose the correct folder from the drop-down selector next to the Save & Close button.
