Backup not found

Hi,

I refreshed my PC completely, installed W10 like before. Next re-installed eM Client, no problem at all. However: eM (same release version, I checked the .XML) does not find the backup’s I made before re-installing W10. I tried the default backup location and others as well but no luck.
Any clue?

Thx, Willem

Close eM Client and then copy the database directory from the Windows.old folder.

So:
C:\Windows.old\Users_yourusername_\AppData\Roaming\eM Client\

to
C:\Users_yourusername_\AppData\Roaming\eM Client\

You may have to enable hidden items in Windows Explorer to get there.

Thx quick reply Gary!
However I’m afraid there is no Windows.old folder: I formatted my drives for a fresh W10 install.

One more: I’m using PeaZip for zipping/unzipping. Any clue if that is causing eM’s ‘not finding’ problem?
Rgds., Willem

Well, you don’t want to unzip the backup file. eM Client will do that itself regardless of what archive manager you have or don’t have.

But you can extract the contents of the zip file manually to C:\Users_yourusername_\AppData\Roaming\eM Client\ if nothing else works.

Ok, bingo. The ‘old’ emails are back in my 2 on-line accounts. Thx sofar!
Any suggestion regarding retrieving the local folders from the backup?

Rgds., Willem

While it is not really advisable to copy just selected directories from the backup zip file, you can try.

Close eM Client, then extract the Archive folder to the C:\Users_yourusername_\AppData\Roaming\eM Client\ folder.

Best is to extract the whole zip file, because that will include your settings, and items like templates etc.

No luck, pity. I’ll try to install em Client on another laptop and try to restore.
Anyhow, thx for your help. It’s a great program in spite of this mishap with my local folders.

Best regards, Willem

If you open the zip file and then open the manifest.xml file, you will see the app version that was used to make the backup.

What is it?

What version do you have installed now?

Both the zip .xml and the program show 7.2.36908.0
It’s getting more complicated: even freshly made backup’s are not visible when I try to restore them immediately afterwards.

I am not seeing that; on 7.2.36908 I am able to backup and restore without issue.

eM Client Support maintain that their product is full tested on an updated OS before release. Maybe see if updating your OS makes any difference.

Gary,
Still no luck with backing up.  I’m moving to a new PC and considering another email client due to the backup/restore issues.
Will beta 8 be more backup and restore friendly?
Regards, Willem

You can download the latest beta version from the Release History and give it a go.
