Yes
I am assuming you are using Windows 11.
Dear @John_A,
yes, I am on Windows 11. Thank you for your detailed explanation.
I’ve tested it. I have thousends of e-mails with the same email subject, by exporting them with your method, they will be renamed/numbered. This is unpractical. Also I have a lot of IMAP folders, I don’t want to backup up them one by one by hand.
I have to search on for another way.
At the moment I can backup all emails to another account with IMAPsync, but I also need an easy way to backup to my local harddisk.
Thank you
Mike
If you have V10 eM Client you could also optionally look at storing emails in an external (.emdf) data file anywhere on your hard-disk in a folder such as “Documents / eM Client”. You create the data file via “Menu / Data files”. The Data files then appear above “Local Folders” below your accounts.
Once the data file is created, you then create folders under that to “copy / move or drag messages from any mail account folders” to those data file folders. Eg: Outlook Messages
The data file can then be “unmounted” if your not using those messages currently “like an archive backup” or re-mounted anytime to access messages and update whenever you want.
Note: When the data file is unmounted, make sure you backup that file on another internal or external drive in case you ever have any hard-disk crashes.
See eM Client documentation below.

Dear @cyberzork,
good to know.
I would like to have a one click solution to backup my 120000 e-mails.
I am not sure if Data Files are the right and easy way for me.
Thank you
Mike
Best one click solution is to use “the built in backup” whenever you want via either manually anytime via “Menu / Backup” or using the periodic automatic backup via “Menu / Settings / General / Backup”.
I do that myself with over 60,000+ emails in multiple IMAP accounts to a dated eM Client Backup.zip file. I keep the last 3 dated backup files in my Documents / eM Client folder. Backs up within a few minutes daily. You can then easily restore your emails anytime if need be via "Menu / File / Restore.
Isn’t the “build in backup” just a backup for all headers? When I do a real backup of my 120000 e-mails I get a filesize about 20.0 GByte, and with eM Client backup just 1.4 GByte.

You can set eM Client “to download all messages including attachments” so they are all fully cached locally" which you can then you can restore in “Offline Mode” if need be by holding down the Ctrl key while opening eM Client. Then “export those backed up messages Locally” before going back online (if your mail server eg: becomes compromized for any reason) and the server messages are gone. See the eM Client How to restore eM Client page below which has various options to restore your messages. Extract below how to restore messages in Offline mode.
Also see further down end of post how to set IMAP accounts to download messages & attachments offline.
Synced accounts that have been removed from the server can still have their backup restored. If you’ve enabled automatic backups; your information will be recovered from the last time that you were online and a backup was performed. Follow these steps to restore your backup in offline mode:
Once the restore is completed, you’ll be able to see all of the messages, calendar events, contacts, notes, and tasks from the last time you were online and saved your information in a backup. Restoring in online mode will replace the restored data from the backup with new data from the server. This is because the server contains the newest data, so it has priority. Everything would be wiped out after the initial sync. If you restore your backup data and the app is offline: you have time to either export the messages into files or copy them into local folders.
Export the data using Menu > File > Export. Alternatively, you can select and then drag and drop specific files in the folders on your device.
