during an automatic backup and request to contact em support. I did move this folder/file to a different drive (for safety during a partition move) and back again. Can anyone help please?
There should be no issue changing the Backup location, as it happens mine is at:
E:\Program Files\eM Client#_Data#Backup#
Set to: Frequency 1 day & Preserve last 7 backups
I also have a sub-folder to store last 21 day Backups
NOW…
Does eMC currently work?
1./ I understand the first part of statement: ‘during an automatic backup’
2./ I do NOT understand second part of statement: ‘and request to contact em support’
Were items 1./ & 2./ part of the same action?
Did you move the Backup file location by using: Menu ->Settings ->General ->Backup ->Target Directory
How did you create the Target Directory?
Have you tried re-booting eMC as eMC appears to be looking for E:/
Is E:/ a local partition of of your HDD/SDD?
With File Explorer check Old, New & Current Backup Target Directory for backup_202108221226.zip
What did you discover?
Get back to me and we’ll take it from there.

eMC works and has been working fine for some time; it’s been set to backup every three days to E:\Syncback\eM Client and to preserve the last 2 backups. When it was backing up this afternoon it produced an error message (as per my post) and which said that i should “contact eMC support”. Which is what brought me here.
The evening before last i cut and pasted all my folders/files from my E: drive to my G: drive for safety while i expanded my F: partition into my logical E: drive. This was successful and i moved my folders/files back to my (smaller) E: drive exactly as i had moved them out.
I’m not sure what you mean by With File Explorer check Old, New & Current Backup Target Directory for backup_202108221226.zip.
But In E:\Syncback\eM Client i currently have three files: backup_202108221226.zip, backup_202108251226.zip and backup_202108281226.zip dated 22, 25 and 28 August respectively. So it does seem to have backed up today despite the error message.
First
For the moment forget about checking with File Explorer.
I don’t understand why you have 3 backup files if eMC is set to preserve 2.
Next…
Make a manual backup?
Menu ->Backup
When this is complete, it will take 2-3minutes
Go to:
Menu ->Settings ->General ->Backup ->Target Directory
I need to know exactly what the entry is in this field
Then go to this directory to check this new backup file is there.
Assuming the backup worked correctly try to restore the latest backup to confirm the system is working
Menu ->File ->Restore ->Select the file to restore
Get back to me when you have done this.

Hi - thanks again for the response. Before i do all this, i should add that if i right-click on any of the three zip files i get a warning message from windows: “Opening these files might be harmful to your computer. Your internet security settings prevented one or more files from being opened.”
So i guess the reason i have three backups is because eMC could not remove the oldest and that’s what caused it to ‘crash’ despite producing a new backup.

NOW:
Do you have Windows 10 in S Mode?
Control Panel ->System ->To view this information
@bully9
i should add that if i right-click on any of the three zip files
This is because of the way your computer setup in UAC (User Account Control)
OPTIONS:
1./ When you right click ZIP ->Properties ->Unblock ->Apply
OR (how I have my system set)
2./Right Click Start ->Search ->type UAC ->Select & Click UAC ->Move slider to ‘Never Notify’ ->OK & Re-boot
This should stop the warning with ZIP Right Click
When you have done this Make a manual Backup and see what happens.
Further it’s up to you, however, IMO change backups to 1 day & preserve 5

NOW:
I can’t help you more if you don’t answer questions.
OK, backup has been working for years but is not now so something has changed.
Perhaps update to Windows,
Perhaps update to eMC.
Perhaps the way you partitioned your drive and moved folders/files around.

I’ve now done a manual backup (after deleting the oldest zip file) and it worked seamlessly. So it seems to have sorted itself out! For the record, i still get the windows warning when i right-click the zip files, including the one i just created. And yes, i always thought it was something to do with moving the files away and back, i just couldn’t imagine what it was.
Oh well, not worth fixing it now it ain’t broke Thanks for your responses, they are appreciated.

¡Es muy bueno!
Since a recent Windows upgrade you will continue to get the warning unless:
1./ Change UAC setting
2./ If you have Windows 10 S Mode.
I also believe you should change your backup settings as above.
You can have your backup set to a particular time by editing Task Scheduler in Windows
