Hi, is it possible to back up from a certain date for example from the 01/01/2023 ? My emails span a number of years and the back ups are getting bigger and taking a long time to finish.

If you use the built-in eM Client backup you cannot specify date ranges. It only backs up everything.
What I’d suggest if you only want to backup certain dated emails in eM Client “to save time on the backup”, is eg: Create a folder on your hard-disk called Old Mail.
Then create mail folders “the same as you have now” in eM Client under Old Mail, and then drag any old messages you currently don’t need to these same folders in Old Mail on your hard-disk.
That will reduce the eM Client local database size and inturn reduce the backup time. You can view these messages anytime by dblclicking them which will open in eM Client or any .eml viewer. They can also be dragged back into eM Client if you ever want to do that down the track
Note: If you do the above, remember to copy the Old Mail hard-disk folder to any external drive for a backup of those messages.
Thanks for the reply. So basically, pull all emails prior to a certain date into an “old email” folder and store on my pc hd. Once removed from emclient, the back up will be reduced and quicker. Can I then import these old emails as well as current emails if I renew my pc? I assume I’ll lose my search function across the complete database as I’ve reduced my “live” emails in em client?
It would be so much easier if I could keep the all emails within EM to search them but split the database to expedite the backup.

Yes you can drag email messages or message folders back into eM Client anywhere you want to at a later date to either an existing email account or to any other email account within eM Client.

You can drag messages & message folders down to “local folders” at the bottom left from any mail account in eM Client, but that won’t reduce the size of the database and will still take just as long to backup “as it’s still within eM Client"database”.
So if you want to reduce the backup time of eM Client, you need to reduce the size of the database, by moving messages completely out of eM Client.
You carnt split the database.
Thanks for the info.

I have a similar mail storage solution as suggested by @cyberzork.
1./ I have a dedicated mail storage partition on my SSD
2./ Setup is by, year/month/day and is a mirror of Local folders with full search access
3./ For security this partition is duplicated “off-site”
4./ Live daily use is for Previous & Current month (I receive between 200/300 email/day)
5./ eMC Backup is modified to run daily at a set time & a specific period
6./ Here is a link to illustrate the Backup routine with setup instructions
