Automatic opening of connections to websites

Using emClient 10.0.3530 (f0b89b7) …and application is allowing emails to open URLs to malware sites. I dont even select any of these junk emails in junk folder …just scroll and multiple malicious URLs are trying to be opened. Luckily
my anti-virus caught these connection attempts in the background. Why is emClient not blocking these hidden connections especially when not even selected in junk folder

You can control whether you allow external email content within each email via the “Menu / Settings (Preferences) / Mail / Privacy” settings via eg: Whitelisted senders, Contact list only etc, but if the senders have planted malware or viruses etc in your emails automatically launching stuff, then “that is only controlled by either your own installed Antimalware / Antivirus / Spyware program” or the “OS Security program if it includes one”.

eM Client doesn’t include an Antimalware or Antivirus program etc. If you have Windows 10 or 11 that has Windows Security / built-in which works fine for me if I ever get anything like that.

The Junkmail folder doesn’t have anything built-in to stop anything activating or launching if an email has malware, spyware or viruses planted in them. That’s up to whatever software you have installed in the OS monitoring to intercept that like your Antivirus program did in your original post at the top of this thread.

So if you are receiving emails where connections are automatically opening and activate things etc in emails, then suggest to look at blocking those senders “via the blacklist” in eM Client. You can block via email address, domain, or header etc.

Also suggest to report any sender emails like that to your mailbox technical support if you are regularly getting emails from a specific sender or domain. They can then look at blocking them so you won’t get them at all. There is also many global sites you can also report emails like that.

Lastly I recommend if you don’t know the email sender or the subject looks suspect, “don’t click on it” and just delete it to avoid any issues.

sorry but i disagree …the whole point of a junk folder is to block any “execution” of anything
in the junk folder which is “blacklisted” . This is how outlook works. The antivirus blocks it b/c em client sucks and doesnt prevent executions of code in email

The Junkmail folder “is no different to any other mail folder”. It only holds unwanted mail or spam that is not wanted in your Inbox.

If you blacklist an incoming email in eM Client and set the blacklist rule to automatically move it to the Junkmail folder, then all that does is then “move it from the Inbox to the Junkmail folder”. Nothing else is meant to happen.

So if you don’t want that senders email in the Junkmail folder, then “set the blacklist rule to automatically delete the email when received” either via the senders email address, domain name or Header info, and don’t move it to the Junkmail folder. Outlook has same options in their blacklist rule setup. You then don’t have to worry about malware from that sender anymore as their email is automatically deleted when received in future.

Outlook “standalone program” locally installed normally does not have any security software in it to stop emails executing anything in the Junkmail. That’s up to your own security software installed running resident to do that as states previously. That’s why they include eg: Windows Security in Win 10 & 11 to detect that which is what I use. If you have a Mac OS 10.15 or later then it has built-in XProtect to guard against Malware and Viruses etc.

Now if you are referring to Outlook Office 365 paid subscription online then they include the Microsoft Windows Advanced Security “as part of that online subscription”, which then detects Viruses, Spyware & Malware etc in mail attachments & phishing links. So you then don’t need Windows Security or other similar installed locally on your computer.

Microsoft like Google also have AI Incoming mail checking to determine if email is possibly spam and will then normally move it to the Junkmail folder, but that’s it. You then decide if you want it.

Lastly some mail clients such as eg: Thunderbird have options where they can eg: plugin external Antivirus / malware programs to monitor mail when clicked, but that is not standard and it’s not necessary when the OS security software already does that type of thing built-in running resident.

What antivirus or other security apps do you have running?

Web sites don’t normally open in eM Client unless you click on them.

You may have malware on your device.
