automatic backup fails / Manual backup OK

hello
Unfortunately I have not found THE right answer to my problem.
The automatic backup stops every time with an error message.

Microsoft.Data.Sqlite.SqliteException (0x80004005): SQLite Error 11: ‘database disk image is malformed’.

If I start the backup manually, everything goes through without any problems, without an error message.

What can I do?

This means that your eM Client database is badly damaged and you really need to start with a new mail database and setup your mail accounts as new, or alternatively restore an old eM Client recent dated backup.zip when it was automatically backing up and working ok.

So if you have recent eM Client backup.zip files “when you know eM Client was working ok without sql errors”, try restoring them via “Menu / File / Restore”. If you have more than one backup.zip file, eM Client will give you are list of dated backups to restore.

Now if none of your previous backups work without sql errors after restoring or you didn’t have any previously working backup.zip files, then suggest to “close eM Client” and then go to the following hidden database folder for Pc or Mac and then rename it to eg: eM Client-Old.

“Hidden mail database folder Windows”
“Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\eM Client”

“Hidden mail database folder Mac”
“Users\yourusername\Library\Application Support\eM Client”

Then reopen eM Client and the wizard will appear to setup your accounts as new. If you then have an IMAP, Exchange, Office 365 or iCloud (non POP) account and nothing in Local Folders, then all your emails etc will come back from the server when eM Client connects and syncs.

Then re-setup the automatic backup again in Settings / Preferences and see if that fixes it.

ok i had already read that from the other topics with similar ‘database disk image is malformed’.
The question is still, why is there an error message with the automatic backup and NOT with the manual backup?
‘malformed is malformed’ or not?
And it is, or rather are, the same databases.

The question is still, why is there an error message with the automatic backup and NOT with the manual backup?

We don’t know why you are getting that error on this free community user forum. Normally the automatic backup (like the manual backup), doesn’t have any SQL errors at all when it runs. So I can only advise as above, to try restoring a backup if you have backups or create a brand new database to test incase yours is partly corrupted.

Now if creating a new database also fails with the automatic backup, then check that you are using the latest eM Client version “for whatever you have currently installed”, as ould be you have an eg: outdated or older eM Client version and its needs updating.

You can check and see all the various eM Client versions for V9 or V10 via the release history page

Lastly make sure you have done all the latest eg: Win 10 or 11 or Mac Ventura, Sonoma or Sequoia updates incase there is OS stuff that’s needed.
