All email for 1 year was erased, if I check sent file all still there as well as history communications on contacts

I was reading email and went back to inbox and found all emails for one year gone.  They are in the sent mail and in contact history but not in inbox.

Hi Jean, are you using a POP or an IMAP account?
What mail service are you using?
