AI-integration. Deep! Yesterday!

been with eM for a few years and am generally happy with it.

BUT
I really, REALLY need integration of my AI tools to my local email.
accessed by account and folder, i am desperate for the capacity to mine the conversations, shipping status emails, and yes, also have the AI answer some mails with my own context in my own tone of voice.
now if it is directly integrated or if i mirror the .ems to a folder for claude code, i don’T care, i just need a solution. and if it is possible with a bit of twister and tying my earlobes behind my head, okay, but then it needs to be in the FAQs and the infobase and in your chatbot (oops, you don’t have that yet) I kinda think you missed the big bang on this one.

I can grit my teeth for a few more months but will have to change to gmail or something if there is nothing amazing in the pipeline. Or I vibecode the damn thing myself.

There are huge plans with AI in v.11, stay tuned, it will come. By the way a chat bot on our website should be launched today.

Best news i had all week!
Happy clauding!

I’m coming from Thunderbird, but I’m so impressed with eM Client that I’m considering switching. The only thing missing is integration with my self-hosted AI (LLM) via LM Studio.**

I’ve already grown quite accustomed to using it in Thunderbird and don’t want to give that up. Additionally, I don’t want to send my data to the big tech giants — I’d much rather keep everything local on my machine.

If there’s a solution for version 11 that allows this, Thunderbird would be history for me!

I’m in the exact same boat. I’ve been hearing rumors that v11 is supposed to be the “AI update,” but the silence is frustrating.

Right now, I’m constantly jumping back and forth between LLMs and my email drafts. It’s a massive clunky workflow that shouldn’t exist in 2026.

A few things i really need a.s.a.p:

  • Context-aware drafting: The AI needs to actually read the thread, and based on my keypoints be able to draft a good mail.
  • BYO API Keys: Let us use our own keys. It’s cheaper for us and less overhead for eM Client.
  • Rules/preferences: I’d like to have a set of rules (preferably per mail account) in which i can put down the tone of voice it should use, do’s and don’ts etc.

It feels like a huge opportunity is being wasted while we wait. I really hope we get some concrete news on v11 soon.

I totally understand that this is extremely difficult.
Software is on a bipolar roller coaster.

Even experts who keep up with the field occupationally are not able to do so; human animals are not built to comprehend the exponential.
Implementation is a whole different issue altogether.

No org can scrum on the old stack forks and rebuild the core every 6 months at the same time.
I am not even a dev, and it makes me dizzy thinking about it. so I have sympathy.
But also expectations.

what i know: EM is by dna very dedicated and i estimate working furiously. in our and their best interest.
what i experience:
what i expect: email clients are in a sundown phase. email. all of it. like the internet replaced the fax, the ai age will replace email. there are more efficient ways to communictate.

It is like watching droids talk to each other in English in Star Wars and i am thinking ‘Bro, is in the future of light-speed travel no better way to communicate?’

tldr love you guys and respect, but get on shipping features right now and expect that this entire tech will all be upside down in 10 years.

I can guarantee AI enhancements are the biggest priority for version 11 and I can promise you that it is going to be huge. Some of these features are already internally implemented, some of them are somewhere in the process. I cannot guarantee that all of these features will be available in 11.0, but we’ll do our best to make that happen.

What is planned:

  • summarize feature - eM Client 11 Sneak peek: AI Summarize | eM Client
  • semantic search (“about” search keyword) to enable search based on meaning, not exact wording
  • Context-aware drafting (conversation context) is already in v10, with v11 we are adding even more context based on the messages sent in the past
  • For drafting messages with user specific tone and style we will also use sent messages history and other data sources
  • Support for 3rd party API keys is considered and planned, however this topic is rather complex
with all the AI features planned for version 11
  • Natural language commands, queries and search
  • Automatic meeting, tasks etc suggestions based on messages content
  • AI powered spam filter
  • AI powered autolabeling and custom rules
  • Predefined quick context aware replies buttons
