Adding a second email account it errors out

i have a hotmail account set up but on entering a btinternet.com account it errors out
any ideas please

What is the error?

Check that you are using the following settings:

Host: mail.btinternet.com
Port: 993 (IMAP) 995 (POP3) 465 (SMTP)
Security policy: Use SSL/TLS on special port (legacy)

Gary
thanks for replying
auto set up fails so i tried manual
it does not ask for any of the details you have above

After the setup is complete, click on the IMAP and SMTP tabs and check the settings that way.

Gary
auto set up does not finish to allow me to check
If i do auto it just errors out

Gary
manual set up does not finish to allow me to check
not my day today

There is an option to ignore the test result. Select that and click Next.

Gary
i have tried setting up a bt account on another machine as a new user it just errors out
error list to long to export to anybody
it seems client does not like bt

eM Client already has the correct settings for BT, so Automatic Setup should work just fine.

It is difficult to say what the problem is without seeing the error, but one thing that could be affecting the setup is that your anti-virus or firewall is blocking the port. Disable the anti-virus and firewall and then try again with an Automatic Setup.

I will try what you suggest
the error list is so long to scroll through
I have Norton antivirus and will disable intrusion and browser protection
Windows firewall is off

Gary

there must be something wrong at emclient as its now saying it cant get the correct settings

It may be that their severs are down. You could check with them.

You can also setup the account manually.

  1. Add a new account. Instead of Automatic Setup, choose Mail > Other. Click Next.

  1. Enter your BT email address. Click Next.

  1. Select IMAP, and fill in the rest of the details. Click Next.

  1. Same address for the outgoing server. Click Next.

  1. If it fails the test, select Ignore test results. Click Next.

  1. Check your details are correct. Click Next.

  1. Click Finish.

  1. Click on the IMAP tab, and change the details as below.

  1. Click the SMTP tab and change the details as below.

End.

Gary
Thanks for all your help
However nothing worked
Having rebuilt my pc thats the reason Ioaded version 7
I have now reverted to version 6 and it loads my BT account ok
There must be a problem in version 7

Gary

one more question please
version 6 does not sync all bt folders should I be using imap please?
the auto set up went to pop3 and smtp

Yes, if you want to sync the folders, you should be using IMAP. POP3 does not sync any folders, it only collects new messages from the Inbox.

Select Mail > Other.

After entering your email address, make sure you select IMAP.

Gary

many thanks

Gary
I need more help please
I have a new windows 10 pc
Like an idiot i downloaded version 7
Guess what it wont download a BT account
I want to download 6 but can not find the data base on w10
can you tell me where please
I am getting older and dafter

The database is in the same location for version 6 or version 7, but you cannot open a version 7 database with version 6. You will have to delete or rename the database directory before opening version 6. To do that, close eM Client, and then delete or rename C:\Users_username_\AppData\Roaming\eM Client. You may have to show hidden items in Explorer to do that.

If you have not already done so, you can download version 6 from http://www.emclient.com/release-history
