Account set up

I am setting up an existing emclient account on a new computer It will not accept the password that goes with the email address that the emclient serves. What is the work-around? I have just verified that the password and address work together.

Presuming you have the correct Incoming server address , server port and security policy, some Verizon accounts need to use an “app password” “generated by your online account” rather than your normal email password. So check online in your account setup if it does have that option.

Also some Verizon accounts had an eg: “AOL POP or IMAP address” rather than a Verizon POP or IMAP address so update what settings you have so we can see if there is any obvious errors.

Thank you for your reply. The error message that appeared was “The server was found but authentication failed. Check the email address and password”. Both POP and IMAP are AOL.com. There are also CardDAV and CalDAV addresses that are AOL.com. There is no reference to to an app password or anything generated by online account. Does this additional info help to identify a solution ?

There is no reference to to an app password or anything generated by online account.

According to Google search Verizon / AOL it does require an App Password.

So dblcheck with your Verizon / AOL technical support just to make sure.

Google search Quote :-

“Yes, Verizon AOL mail requires an “App Password” for third-party applications, as the standard password is no longer accepted for security reasons. You must generate a unique app password through your AOL account’s security settings to access it on other email clients like Outlook or Thunderbird”.

Now if your Verizon.net mail account “definately doesn’t require an app password” then if you are setting the account up manually via going to “Menu / Accounts / Add account / Mail / Other”, you might just have the wrong server settings.

Note: Normally Verizon.net accounts do setup automatically ok via the add account wizard.

These are the port and security policy combinations you can use with eM Client.
