Hi emClient team
Sorry to say this latest version is almost unusable.
It is incredibly slow to do things like
- update list of messages in a folder
- retrieve the message
- compose a message
it’s many many times slower than the previous version which was quite usable, to the point where I am now use webmail instead.
It also locks up the UI while it is doing anything slow. It seems like someone decided that separate threads for work vs user interface was a bad idea, and moved the work into the UI thread.
The webmail (aftermail) is blinding fast on the exact same mailbox that I am accessing.
I’d really hate to abandon this product, is there a link to the previous version I can down-grade to?
Thanks
Adrien
Oh that is strange as it works fine for me using the same version on PC and Mac. Could be something went wrong when you upgraded.
Try uninstalling and if you have Windows “don’t delete the database” when asked on the uninstall wizard. Then reinstall the same version from the release history page and see if that fixes it.
If it still doesn’t then “try a new database” incase there was a problem with your database prior to the upgrade which then caused a problem. To create a new database close eM Client and then go to the following eM Client hidden folder and rename it to eg: eM Client-Old. Then reopen eM Client and setup your account etc as new.
(Hidden mail database folder Windows)
“Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\eM Client”
(Hidden mail database folder Mac)
“Users\yourusername\Library\Application Support\eM Client”
If that still doesn’t work then close eM Client, then delete that new hidden database folder and uninstall eM Client, and then download the previous version via the release history page and setup new again and see if it then works ok.
If it then works with the previous version, make a backup via “Menu / Backup” to save that. You can see when the backup is complete in Show Operations via clicking the drop-down on the right of Refresh top left. Then try updating again.
As well as what cyberzork suggested, you could try repairing the database as described by @Gary in a number of posts:
Please close eM Client and open a Windows Command Prompt. Not a powershell, but a command prompt (cmd).
Paste in this command:
“C:\Program Files (x86)\eM Client\MailClient.exe” /dbrepair
“C:\Program Files (x86)\eM Client\MailClient.exe” /dbrepair /rebuildall
Restart eM Client.
I have several hundred filters I’d love to keep, will these be gone if I set up the account again?

Removing and readding the account (doesn’t normally remove other settings), but “make a backup first” via the menu just incase. If you then need to restore, go to “Menu / File / Restore”.
If you are referring to rules (when you say filters), you can also export rules to a .xml file via “Menu / File / Export” and choose “Export Settings to .xml” and then select “Rules” and export to a file.
You can then Import Rules if you need to later via “Menu / File / Import” by selecting “eM Client Settings .xml” and then Import your saved file.
