Zentyal 4 and eM client compatibility ?

Dear eMclient: I get error “[Exchange Web Services]  MailExceptions.ConnectionException: Couldn’t get server version.” when trying to connect to zentyal 4 mail system. Outlook 2007-2013  is connecting fine, is there any resolution ? best regards

Hi, unfortunately Zentyal seems to not support the Exchange Web Services protocol, so you won’t be able to use the account using your current setup.
Based on the server’s information you should be able to setup the account using standard IMAP, SMTP and CalDAV/CardDAV services.

How did you setup the account, did you use the automatic or the manual Exchange setup with this account? I believe all these services should be automatically setup after using the automatic setup in eM Client.

Hope this helps,
Paul.

Hi, thank you for your anwser,

I did my setup only with exchange account , becouse it’s an only option. I guess in the future , when em client and zentyal will be mergable it will be a nice, low budget alternative option.

Best regards.

I am actually trying to do the same thing… I ran a diagnostic out of Outlook (which connects just fine, BTW) and attached is an obfuscated Autodiscover.xml that was returned that shows the ServerVersion:

Hi again Tomaz, you should be able to setup the account as a standard IMAP and CalDAV/CardDAV service if you have these protocols/services available on the server, which is usually a standard.

Hope this helps,
Paul.

Hi Scott , Did you succeed with this. It would be really nice to have this as a working option.

Hi Daniel, I did not get it working, I didn’t have time to investigate any further than this post. Currently using webmail, and Outlook 2013 in EAS mode…

Hello Daniel, unfortunately Zentyal 4 supports a protocol called OpenChange - this is unfortunately not supported in eM Client, the server also supports ActiveSync, this however is only used for mobile devices and you’re not allowed to use ActiveSync with eM Client, unless the server supports standard IMAP/SMTP sync I’m afraid there’s no option how to synchronise with this server.

Regards,

Hi is there any progress in compatibility - or maybe near future plans for working together?

Hello Martin,
unfortunately the support for OpenChange has not been planned yet and with most of our energy focused on the new version of eM Client, it might be a while before it’s considered.
Though that can always change in the future.

Regards,
Olivia

Hello,

I have the same problem. I have installed Zentyal 4.2 and I can connect Outlook 2007-2013 and the implemented mail version from Windows 10 with this Server.

Now I would like to use “em Client” as my preferred mail and calendar client. But it isn’t possible to get a connection.

I get the following sync-protocol information:

11:22:35 [email protected][Exchange Web Services]  MailExceptions.ConnectionException: Couldn’t get server version.

11:22:35    bei MailClient.Protocols.Exchange.ExchangeFolderSynchronizer.GetExchangeVersion(WorkerStatus s, CancellationToken c)

11:22:35    bei MailClient.Protocols.Exchange.ExchangeGenericCommand.Execute(WorkerStatus status)

11:22:35    bei MailClient.Commands.Command.Process(WorkerStatus status)

Is it possible to solve this problem?

BR Johann

Hello Johann,
can you try adding eM Client as an exception in your Windows firewall and Antivirus program to see if they’re not blocking its connection to the server?

Regards,
Olivia

Hello Olivia,
why should be the connection blocked. I have installed Outlook 2010 on my laptop and parallel your client. Why should Outlook work through the firewall and your application not?

BR Hans

I get a connection and I have to confirm the private Certificate.

Configuration Notebook: Windows 7, Outlook 2010
Server: Ubuntu 14.04, Zentyal 4.2
With Outlook 2010 I get a connection and it works since one year.

Hi Johann,
Outlook is a Microsoft product, so Microfost Windows OS will never block it.
With a third-party applications the connection to the mail server can be ruled out as unsafe or slowed down enough to make the synchronization with the server impossible.
If your server uses a valid EWS protocol, you should be able to connect to it through eM Client.

Regards,
Olivia

I will stop the firewall on my notebook and test again.

There is no difference between firewall on or off.

1)      I start to add an exchange account at tools/accounts/mail

2)      I choose exchange

3)      I fill in Email address, User name and Password

4)      At the first time I have to import the private certificate

5)      Then I get the following massage

The server was found, but authentication failed. Check the email address and password.

I made a trace on the server and get the following information.

I don’t know the correct value, but I see the server expected a special value “got NTLMSSP command 3, expected 1” and get an other one.
