I have tried my email password but it appears to need some other password, the email arrives and can send but this message appears each time “server says unathorised”

Well, CardDAV is a contact protocol. Go to Menu > Tools > Accounts, and make sure you have the correct credentials entered for any CardDAV accounts that are setup.
