When I opened EmClient today it said there was an update and I said OK. It installed and it’s now at Version: 10.4.5642 (2a058eO). I closed EmC and deleted the log files. When I restarted EmC, it knows nothing of my data files or accounts. I have the data files on a drive other than C:.
I have had the same problems as well but got a solution from Kim_Fisher in this thread: Em Client "forgets" custom Database Location - #5 by Thunderbolt
This has not happened since i did setup a Profile so it´s worth testing.
